Default Dana 36-44

Are a Dana 36 and a Dana 44 interchangeable?
Do they have the same mounting points.
Thanks for the info.

Yes and no.

Yes, the carrier and "Batwing" bolt right in. (Frame, u-joints, suspension all match)

No, the 44 driveshaft is about 1" shorter than one for a 36. (Your 36 can be shortened. I had mine done)
Also, the "C-beam" is different. (36 C-beam needs some of the bolt holes relocated. I forget exactly how, but you can do a search for the thread on it)

Dana 44 driveshaft and c-beam can be purchased, then installed with no need to mod anything. I recommend that if you do the swap, replace all of the u-joints with "Spicers". (They are all the same u-joints... axles and driveshaft) Great time to lower the rear, too.
An alignment is required after the swap.

This is the easiest way to improve that gear-ratio. So, if you don't have one yet, you can pick one with a gear that can really wake up your car.
The standard ratio in a 44 is 3.45:1. Also available were 3.07 and 3.54. Maybe others??? If you change ratios, your speedo needs to be programmed or set up to match.
