I've got wire wheels from Dayton and while they are nice-looking chrome wheels, they leak air through the spokes when the silicon seal wears off. I've had two flats over the past few months and then my spare turned out to be dry-rotted. It's probably the original that came with my 1990 coupe. I should have replaced it years ago.

I didn't know it would be so hard to find a spare for a C4. Everybody has everything associated with a spare, but not the actually tire itself. I tried Zip Corvette, Ecklers, Mid America, Ebay and even a used Corvette parts place in Pennsylvania. Nobody had a spare tire for a C4. Ebay had one from a 1989 but I felt that would be nearly dry rotted.

But Tire Rack saved the day for me. I did cringed at the $186 price tag for the spare. But I wouldn't want to leave home without one, especially with the wire wheels, which were manufactured in 1993 and came with the car when I bought it 10 years ago. Dayton told me to re-seal all of the spokes with silicon. I've done that. So hopefully there won't be any road-side tire changing going on in my life for a while.

If your wheels leak air through the spoke holes why don't you put an innertube and a liner on the wheels. That way it cannot leak through the spoke holes and the liner will keep the spokes from poking a hole in the innertube.

Sounds like a good idea. So I called my tire man and he said tubes would disintegrate inside a tubeless tire because of the heat generated by the tubeless tire. The metal inside the tire conducts heat, especially during the summer. The old nylon tires that had tubes didn't produce nearly as much heat, he said.

As for a photo, I'll see if I can post one later this week. I don't have the car with me at work today and I don't have any photos of it here.

The spare tire from a large Lexus fits also. Same size tire just change it over to your Vette rim. Just did this 2 weeks ago. 10.00 for tire in really nice like new condition and know the tire shop owner that swapped it for me free.

Carry a AAA card with you at all times. I don't have a spare with either of my Vettes.

For your issue you could also carry a compact air compressor that runs off the cig lighter. This would fill the tire and allow you to get home.
