if the money was absolutely not an issue, would you sell your beloved C4 and step up to a newer, nicer version vette which also enables you to put the top down whenever you want?
If fact, should I get rid of my '88 IROC-Z, I would like to replace it with a clean '89 MN6 Vette...

This is a great question. I often wonder if I would like to have a C5 or C6. I am always doing casual shopping for cars, just a pastime. But what you said about enjoying it more than the C4...good question. I can see liking it just as much, but not MORE. So I would probably sit tight as long as my car is in the same or better nick as now.

Its always funny that these questions get asked in C4 sections. Here there are at least 40 people who have had newer and honestly prefer the C4. Go to any of the newer forums, and you'll have thousands of people who've had C4's and wouldn't go back. Drive whatever you prefer, its really that simple.

Never really did warm up to the 5's enough to own one. Loved the 6's & 7's right out of the gate. Our problem is we refuse to sell the two we already own cause we love them too much so the money that would be no object would have to buy a 6-10 car garage before any new corvettes!

Just sold a C5, it's a great car for the money, don't underestimate it. Mine was just not a good daily driver with my bad knees.
Here's the deal; to go across town or hang at local car shows, I prefer the C4, to drive 30 miles to watch the grandsons play soccer in Provo, I'll take a C5.

I have a 1973 being restored and that will be a keeper. I bought a 1993 C4 auto, convert and she could car less. I could possibly part with that for a C5 6 speed convert.
Now my 1994 Polo Green Convert, 6 Speed is a flippin keeper too.
Ya can't have too many 1911's, Harley's or Corvette's is what I have been told.......Next I want an Armored Personal Carrier just in case.

If I were going to use the Corvette as a daily driver again, I would want the newest one in my budget. Probably a C6 preferably '08 or later with the LS3. Just too many factors that would make it the better driver as a work horse so to speak. Again, if it were my only car, ahich it would have to be for me to afford it.
However, if not, I would use the money to maximaize and the performance and driveability of my C4. I quite sure that, in cash terms, for far less the money of a pristine C5, or average C6, I could make the C4 every bit as fast, nimble, and comfortable as either.

I was going to trade the '86 in on the 2003 I bought in 2002. I decided I didn't want to give up the '86, so I sold my '90 Supra instead. I recently traded the '03 in on a retirement present for myself. It is possible to have the best of both worlds, or as I like to put it, "If one is good, two is better":
I think it's interesting how much lower the C4 is than the C6.

Well I have the money, but would not upgrade. I feel sure the c5-6-7 is a better car. But for me, I like my c4 and would rather have the money for other things besides trading for another vette. In other words, IMO they aint that nice!! But to each his own.

Why upgrade and lose the C4?
Have Both.
C5: I will admit, in darker colors like burgundy, black, that midnightblue Ole Bubble Butt looks mighty hawt. On paper there's no comparison between a C4 and a C5. The C5 chassis is four times stiffer, to such a degree that there was only a 4hz difference between a rag top and hard top according to car and driver.... the Waterfall also, looks sweet on a C5 Vert. Engine wise... one's an LSX.... the other is either an LTX or Gen1... No comparison. Handling and braking specs>>>>>>>>> C4 by quite a ways, and is a much better car over broken pavement due to a better designed rear suspension, and stiffer chassis. It's also aged quite well in my eyes. If I had the cash (which I'm perilously close to having..... its' between getting a dart 400 shortblock, and getting a C5....) I would love to own a C5.
C6: Strangely I loved this car when it first came out. Now? Not so much. The styling hasn't aged well with me. I hated the look of the C5 start to finish when it came out, and now it and the C6 have flip flopped for me. To me the C5 actually manages to look more modern. I think the C7 coming out was what put the death nail in the C6 styling for me. the C6 looks kind of...old.
C7: The technology, the new chassis, the far more aggressive styling compared to the C6.. Yes. In a heartbeat.

If the C5s didnt have the complex electronics in them then Id get a C5Z
Reading the tech sections of the C5, 6 etc show me neither one would be a fit for me. 1 as Im not proficient with electronics and 2 they just have TOO many defects, some same gen after gen. Still admire vettes but dont think Id own another just too many problems.
In that respect less is more for me, for others who are good at fixing that stuff or have deep pockets to pay someone they are outstanding machines when everythings working right.
If youre worried about depreciation just keep what you got.

It used to irritate me how tall the C6 was compared to the C4 when I had both, and it didn't seem to have any more head room either; my helmet would rub the roof in either car. Seemed like "wasted space"/mass, to me.

I like the fact that the C4 is pretty cool for me. I have a standard coupe with all the goodies. If I were to upgrade it would probably be for a C4 ZR1 or GS with low miles.
C1,2,3 are all too pricey for me. I don't care for the big but look of C5,6 but I do like the C7 Convertable.

I think the height has to do more with the frame rails not riding shotgun with your legs in the C5 and C6s like it does our cars

I would love to have a C6 Z06 if money were no object but I couldn't afford to repair it if it wasn't covered by warranty. The early C4s are not really that complicated by todays standards and for the most part can be diagnosed and repaired with a generic scanner and competent mechanic (or even an owner with mechanical aptitude). I don't believe that's happening with a C6.
If a warning light comes on are you going the Chevy dealer or a Corvette specialist if the car is not under warranty?

x2 spend some time in C5-6 tech the issues and procedures to diagnose are a little intimidating to me. They are really starting to show their age as the electronics start to go. Need a car as dumb as I am.
