I am the original owner for my 1990 ZR1. My brother Nick has a 1995 blue Zr1, and he raced the 2002 ZO6 when it came out w/405hp and the ZO6 took him to school. I had a 2003 ZO6 raced him on his 95 he never had a chance.on second gear alone the trace was decided.
the same happened when I raced a newC6ZO6, and I had to have one so sold my 02, and bought the C6ZO6.
My C6ZO6 beats everybody.
bye

note to self.... do not buy a car from We Gone... ever...
I find it ironic that people are impressed with a Corvette (or any car) going 50k+ miles with out repairs, I routinely drive cars to 100K miles with just normal repairs (Oil & filter, air filter, tires, brake pads, other fluids changed at recommended intervals)
I drove my 04 C5 160K miles and the only big fix was an AC compressor at 100k, when I sold it still had original plugs, belt and hoses.

this is a fact. Why not a standard c6? prices are comparable to c5 z06s if you buy one of the early years, there just as fast and probably a better car. Even a 08 ls3 can be bought for top end c5 z prices.
All cars get old, All cars get better with the advances in technology learned from the past, Everything wares out over time. If you don't want to or don't have the $$ to maintain an older car don't even think about getting one.
Unless you want to own a part of a cars history buy the newest you can afford.

I see cars like women. If it were always about age and 'useage/miles () everyone would be buying the newest cars. And to many people who aren't attracted to a c4 I always say the same thing and that is : 'buy a c5 or c6 hands down'. No question about it. To me the c4 is like a pretty.... **** star ? Attractive as hell but has obvious flaws I am VERY attracted to a C4. So much so I easily chose one over a c5 or c6 that were eaily within my budget. Sometimes I call it being a victim of my own generation. I grew up walking to school past a yellow zr-1 almost every day and I was in love with it and always have been in love with c4s. I look at many of the cars flaws as unique features like the cockpit.. a little dated, but tight and cramped.. Just like one of my favourite cars the Lamborhini Diablo. The C4 was the only car ive ever sat in that made me feel like I was sitting in an exotic and I love it so much for it (even more so when lowered a lot).
I could go on but yes I still find the c5z incredibly beautiful.. but The LT5 and the c4 when-modified apprearance was an easy choice for me.

And this would be because GM built a fine car that only needed normal maintenance? I consider keeping it clean and well maintained part of this including wheel wells, suspension & undercarriage, engine compartment, maybe you guys have a misconception of normal maintenance. 3 sets of tires, 2 sets of brakes, oil every 5k miles. all other fluids changed at recommended miles, Ran great never left me stranded when I sold it still getting 28-30 mpg. Here it is with 160k miles.
My 91 with almost 60K miles.
My 93 with 30K miles
How about my 95 LT1 with just under 200k miles

FWIW
There were two modded Z's at this years Mojave Magnum that ran 180/178 mph.
A coupla of stock Z06's ran 176 mph.
Just saying the C4s still have the aerodynamic advantage
And a 8k rev limit doesn't hurt either.

Every vehicle has "scheduled maintenance" milestones (e.g; 5,000, 10,000, 25,000, 75,000 etc...) and for those milestones (mileage) there are items that need replacing. I don't care what the parts look like, new or not, they should be replaced. Such as fan/serpentine belts, brake fluid, diff fluid, anti-freeze, power steering fluid etc... and that is why I stated what I did - see post #71.
I've pulled Platinum plugs out 40k miles before the required (mileage) change and although they were still 'decent' they were a welcome change. Changing hoses and belts sooner rather than later is 'cheap insurance'. I prefer not to be stranded because I cheaped out on the maintenance of my vehicle - DD or weekend toy.

Sorry but you may want to learn how to read!! Go back and look I never implied I did not do normal scheduled Maintenance on any of my cars!!!!!
#97
First let me apologize for the caps, I was under the impression you were calling me out because I did not go into detail in regard's to how I maintain my cars. Like I would not do normal things such as change the filter. I guess I took it for granted that everyone knew the point I was trying to get across was in my case there were no extra costs.
LOL to these guys with nothing better to do BUT normal maintenance on these cars needed or not it's a joke. Ford says use a ford oil filter. Nobody has an idea when something will break. They have all these schedules except on the real parts that break like optis, clutch packs, etc.
This does not include you wegone, I'm am speaking of the people saying these "schedules' showed be followed. OF course if you keep replacing parts a car has less chance of breaking down. The point of buying a car is reliability and good engineering.
Plenty of people here running these cars with the WRONG size belts and pieces hacked off and they are still daily drivers and have 500-600hp.
To me I don't take belts, etc in to consideration when buying a car anyways, they can be changed and should be. LOL the bones of the car is what matters and you have very nice cars it's obvious.

if you read the book "corvette from the inside"
the LT5 was halted in production because the next generation LS1 engine that was used for the 1997 C5 corvette, was lighter and cost less to produce. and its HP #s were starting to approach what the LT5 could do (i'm not saying matching or bettering, but getting close).
when you are building many many cars, you have to look at #s.
they just didn't build that many of the LT5 model cars-they were expensive and didn't sell as much.
now if you want a "collectable C4", the LT5 is probably your car...although i heard that parts are getting pricey and rare!
personally, i think the C5 Z06 model has a unique lineage that continues from the classic C3 model of cars (why i like them). and if you read your history of it, they were really able to hot rod the LS1 engine to get more performance out of it for the Z06. i think they are cool cars. i looked at one when i was looking about a month and a 1/2 ago, but it wasn't for sale long b/c it was at a pretty low price pt.
i ended up getting a 2000 corvette, and i am very happy w/ it.
good luck

TY Tom, and pologreen1 my feelings exactly
As to this statement
My cars would not have made 50k-100k miles without issues if they were not properly maintained.
You don't have anything to worry about nor does anyone who puts any merit in your statement as I have no intention of ever selling my current Corvette's it took 37 years of collecting and selling over 25 corvettes to acquire these with no issues on the ones sold in fact some of them to forum members on the other coast .
