Default Different wheels on my 85

I recently found an older set of Enkei mesh wheels, I have been wanting to replace the 92-94 wheels that are currently on the car since they are not the correct wheels for this car and thought these would look good. What do you guys think.

Before

After

I like them, but mostly because I don't care for any of the standard wheels for our cars except the ZR1 type. I will say though that I am "old school" in my preference for shiny silver/chrome wheels

They look good!

Default Rims

black rims I typically don't care for but on a white car those look good.

another that prefers chrome but i have to say they look right on your white car. I think theyd be dog ugly though without that polished rim. that makes all the differnce.

While the Enkei is no more correct for your car than the sawblades, at least they are "PERIOD correct".
I like them on that car much more than the 'blades.

not a big fan of after market wheels in general, but those are very nice! much better than the saw tooth (my least favorite C4 wheel) I even like the turbines better. the 6 spoke '88 are my fav. for early C4's

I think your car looks good with either, but I am partial to the sawblades. Probably because I put a set on my '85 and like it.

I have had those on both an 86 coupe and an 87 vert. Mine were made by Riken. Always liked the look.

When the C4 was introduced in 1984 the BBS RS mesh style wheel was the premium wheel of choice. It is period perfect wheel on early C4's. It took me 20 years to find a set & restore them for my 85' to get that look I remember from my childhood & I have no regrets.

Very nice looking Vette you have there sir..

I have always liked the way these wheels look on an early C4, so when I came across these for $75 on craigslist I snatched them up quickly. I will have to find the correct center caps eventually but for now they will do.....

I used to operate a large machining facility making parts for tanks & airplanes so I had access to many processes. I started by disassembling the wheels & sent everything out for acid dipping to remove all the clearcoat/paint/sealant. The inner barrels had pock marks from corrosion & had to be filled with weld & one of the inner barrels was cracked that was fixed also & I then trued the inner barrels on a vertical lathe. The outer lips were turned to a fine finish on a vertical lathe then weeks of polishing after work. I painted the centers with Duplicolor Gold Ghrome paint & inner barrels with Duplicolor Silver wheel paint & clearcoated everything with Duplicolor Clear Wheel paint. I purchase all new rim bolts & hardware along with really good sealant (34 Bolts/nuts per wheel). I bought new plastic BBS emblems off of Ebay. Assembled the whole lot & waited almost (2) years on backorder for BFG to make a new lot of 255/50/16 tires & finally got these mounted on the car in April 2012 I then had had white rubber letters cut out on a CNC cutter & glued then to the tires to give it that racecar look. Now if you do not want to dedicate the time to restore yours you can contact my friend Scott at Detroit Vintage Wheels, he uses CNC equipment to restore wheels. He is not cheap, but you will get stunning results. http://www.detroitvintagewheels.com/

With 3 sections coming together in the bead area, how are they sealed or do you run tubes in them? Just curious.

3 piece wheels would use a rubber gasket at the mating surfaces.

Had the 16 inch Enkei's on mine for a few years. I used the 84 black center piece to keep them all one color. Wanted to upgrade to 17 inch wheels so I sold them to someone on this forum.

You need to use a good silicone surface sealant or the wheels will leak. I used Dow Corning 832 multi-surface sealant. You also need to cross-torque the nuts & bolts with blue Loctite or you will have issues. The advantage of 3 piece wheels is you can change you offsets with new barrels/lips it is very expensive but what of quality is not. I have a set of center lock BBS wheels used on an IMSA racer back in the eighties I have been saving for a 1970's Greenwood Corvette replica that I want to build in the near future & I will have to have new lips & barrels made to fit the wheels within the fenders so it will work with street tires. I look forward to that project.
