Those are good looking tires, I wish the tire companies could put a better picture with their tire description, I also wish I had seen this picture yesterday, I just ordered a set of Continental Extreme DWS but with the stipulation that if I don't like them when they come in I can refuse them.
the DWS- stands for Dry,Wet,Snow whereas the DW is just Dry/Wet.

Yeah, that has me a bit concerned, that's why I told them I would only take them if I liked the look of the actual tire. I read all the reviews and the DWS and the Cooper Zeon RS were my two I kept coming back to, I liked the tread design on the Conti better.

Date is code stamped on the tire itself. First two numbers are the week of the year and the second two numbers are the year. Purchased tires should not be more than a year old.

What I found is that tires are produced based on demand. This time of year folks are looking for winter or wet tires. Most Corvette sizes are considered dry or summer tires and demand is not real high. I needed tires on my 93 I just bought, tires were 14 years old, end of the summer season and not a lot of choices for fresh born tires. The ones I got are 4 months old, however the warranty for replacement or repair starts the day they are mounted as long as I have my receipt or proof of purchase date. Just be careful of a shop selling tires way below retail they may be a few years old, check the production date to be sure. You can ask for tires that are less than a month old, but if your buying at the end of a season they could be 4 to 6 months old. The real wear and tear on tires is once they are mounted and exposed to sun, smog and just using them. Anyway you look at it tires can be 10 years old and look like new but they do have a shelf life.
