Before I bought my '85 I was also thinking about a classic jet boat. In researching that, I learned that what's known as roll&tip is a pretty popular way to paint a boat. Basically you roll on the paint, then while it's still wet use a dry brush to smooth out the roller texture. The ones I've seen look pretty amazing.

That stuff is probably made from kryptonite, its as hard as my noggin when dry & flows out leaving a glass like finish.

as an artist, i sort of love hand painted cars, we have a few here in our town (older model small cars and an old volvo). i think they are cool actually, but i think living in a "conformists" world is sort of hard to be different and stand out.
i have not seen any funky painted corvettes....
heck to even see many corvettes period is sort of a treat, so they already stand out honestly.
in all my CL searches for corvettes, i remember seeing one late C3 that had a pinup girl painted on the hood. i remember thinking: that would be an odd car to drive around...it certainly stands out!!!!

That, as they say, was an entrance.

Well, I'd always wanted a '69-'70 Mach 1, and this one followed my home around 2011. It had been sitting outside for around 10 years and was ragged, but it's a rust free Southwest car. The writing was on the wall at that point....I'd pretty much gotten the Corvette bug out of my system. I kept Marco until last fall, and then sold him to a forum member from New Jersey (CVTLOPE).
That said....there may be another somewhere down the road....stranger things have happened!
Thanks!

I am guilty
Last Saturday my wife and I went for a drive. We stopped at an intersection, my wife started laughing and pointing. A young girl, 20ish, was painting her car. She had taped all the trim off with blue painters tape and was rolling the paint on. She had a paint tray she was dipping the roller into and going to town on the car. It was a first for us. Can't help but laugh when thinking of it.

back in high school in the early 70s i painted a gs buick with red paint using a brush. If you wait for a hot sunny day the pay actually lays out pretty well. Maybe not perfect enough for a vette but for a beater car it actually turned out pretty well. Held up real well too. Ive seen sparyed jobs that looked worse and held up worse.

I love those old Mustangs. My cousin used to drive one in HS. I remember riding in it and wishing I was old enough to drive.

I did this paint job to a Pinto I had, it worked great. If you have a)low budget b) time c) a place to do it, it works out just fine. The paint was nice and shiny when done, and I could buy touch up paint in a spray can for a couple of bucks.
A $300 car does not deserve a $3000 paint job. I had ~$65 into the paint job and it looked twice as good as when it started.
