Weird car painting method
Last Saturday my wife and I went for a drive. We stopped at an intersection, my wife started laughing and pointing. A young girl, 20ish, was painting her car. She had taped all the trim off with blue painters tape and was rolling the paint on. She had a paint tray she was dipping the roller into and going to town on the car. It was a first for us. Can't help but laugh when thinking of it.

Could have been plasti dip. But there is a whole fan base dedicated to hand painting and roller painting cars. I was reading a forum I stumbled across a couple of years ago. Can't find it now. But here is an article about it -

I knew a guy who painted his car with a brush. We were in the Army and he didn't have the money for a real paint job. On the other hand, maybe it was the getaway car for a crime and he wanted to disguise it...

Btw , here in Italy, you'll never ever ever see a girl, specially in the 20s, paint her car, or even wash her car...they simply put the key on ... I always surprised when you talk about girls working on her car, this is an attitude i love in a girl....

Melting Slicks
a few years ago a car mag ("Car Craft"?) ran an article, "The 98 Dollar Paint Job" using soft rollers and thinned enamels on an early Ford Falcon; came out pretty good; so maybe that young woman is on to something; p.s., what kind of car was she painting ?

It was an older Corolla. I am going to take a walk in the area soon and see if I can get a look at it. I'm curious now.

Safety Car
As high as new paint jobs are these days, this might be a good inexpensive alternative for "second cars" or "daily driver cars" that the owner isn't as picky about. I think the truck turned out pretty good.

Few years ago a member here executed a weird paint job. A forum member witnessed a long red stripe along the passenger door.
He was criticized by many here, he got BUTT-HURT, and deleted all the photos, and posts.

Up in Michigan I saw duct tape stripes on several cars. I also saw the possum van and a guy dressed like Red driving it.

I hate giving away my age like this......When I was a small kid back in the late 50s I can remember my "Great Grandfather" painting his old Hudson with a paint brush.. He painted it yellow on the top, and blue on the bottom, and painted right over the chrome.....I remember my Grandfather asking him why he didn't take it to Earl Scheib and have it painted...He said (because Im not paying them $19.95 for a paint job, when I can do it for $5.00)... Damn, I must be old........WW

as an artist, i sort of love hand painted cars, we have a few here in our town (older model small cars and an old volvo). i think they are cool actually, but i think living in a "conformists" world is sort of hard to be different and stand out.
i have not seen any funky painted corvettes....
heck to even see many corvettes period is sort of a treat, so they already stand out honestly.
in all my CL searches for corvettes, i remember seeing one late C3 that had a pinup girl painted on the hood. i remember thinking: that would be an odd car to drive around...it certainly stands out!!!!
