Default Any good reason to keep old head unit and speakers?

Hi everyone. I have a '92 coupe. I had a shop tear out the old head-unit and speakers and put in a modern system.

Is there any good reason to not trash the old system? The head-unit is is in OK condition. A few buttons are sticky from where spilled soda got in behind the buttons, and the lcd illumination bulb is blown. The speaker amps are all non-functional -- which is why I finally replaced everything.

Keep it if you have a collectible model with an engine option code ending in T4 or T5. Otherwise, send it to one of the oem radio repair guys- they probably want cores.

They're all collectible - some are just more desirable (and costly).

OP - I wouldn't trash it. I replaced mine and kept the old system. The head unit works but the rear speaker amps started to go bad. I figured it was better to install a new system. As time goes by, more and more people will upgrade their original system - in the process they'll lose one or more parts of the old. Purists will want the old system and pay for it.

Kept mine for years, and got sick of it in the way, collecting dust and moving it around. Finally posted it here, and sold it...don't miss it.

My car is the highly sought-after, red, '92 LT1. Very rare, collectible car.

Unless they draw flies, cost money to store, or remind you of an ex-significant other (trying to be contemporary), its usually a good idea to keep all the stock parts as long as you own the car.

Did you leave the radio receiver in the car? If for whatever reason you or the next owner would want to re-install the factory system, that's an important piece to have. Also, did the shop tear out the old wiring harnesses when the new unit was installed?

The speakers and amps can be rebuilt; there are vendors that will do that. Same with any repairs to the HU. Also the early style HU's like yours have a yellow-ish backlighting and the printing is a dark yellow color. The later units have white backlit lighting and printing.
