Default in-floor car lift

saw this on youtube and was wondering what everyone's thoughts were on it. I think its pretty slick and nice and out of the way. my only question is, has anyone used this type of lift on a C4?

Really neat idea, however I also feel like you'd lose a lot of access to the underside of the car with this design. It would be nicer if it was just a four point lift but somehow with the same idea but the four points would give you more access to the underside.

my thoughts also that is why I was wondering if anyone ever used a lift like this for a corvette. obviously for a Porsche or VW it would work great as there is nothing down the middle of the car.

but you could still use this to lift the car and then put some high (homemade) jack stands to hold the car at that height and then lower the lift back to floor. this would give you access to the middle of the car at a decent height. using this with stow away jack stands would still leave the floor free from a two post or four post lift foot print.

Putting an in-floor lift in a small two-car garage - YouTube
Those are nice A guy 4 doors down from my house has one of those and its portable. When hes done with it he just rolls it aside in his garage. You don't really need to put it in the ground

I am not sure how practical this is, but I think it would be cool to have just to say that you have it.

I think Lifts are overrated and unnecessary for the Home-Garage.
Race Ramps will suffice.
Any major work go to a certified GM Mechanic or Dealer.

You must be young, I can verify that it's real nice not to have to lay on the floor when doing work under the car after age 55.....I'm getting a 4 post this coming year for my garage......WW

Then my garage is overrated. I hope to have my lift installed in the next month.

I'm early 50s and slim, unlike most of today's FAT America sadly and unfortunately.

I understand all to well how C4s are such low gravity vehicles and if you are older with joint problems then by all means buy whatever equipment you need that makes you happy and/or comfortable working on the C4.

All I'm suggesting is IMO think a Home/Garage Lift is overrated.

Race Ramps are made for this purpose.

Are they unnecessary for oil changes ? Yes. But if you do any real work on your car you will wonder how you ever lived without one.
While you can do suspension/exhaust/transmission work with jackstands (I did it for years) it is so much nicer and easier to do it on a lift. It is also nice having an extra parking space underneath.

Are you saying that because your wife said "no"?

I ask that question because there are hundreds of members (C4, C5, C6, and off topic) here
that blame their wives for their misfortunes.

Thay claim that "happy wife, happy life". My question to that slogan is :

When do you get to be happy?

I have a Max Jax in my garage, and that already paid for itself. Overrated? Oh no, heck no.

I can't think of a dealer I'd trust to work on anything I own, let alone my Corvette. I do my own work out of self-defense, as much as for cost-saving reasons. There is nobody out there who will take as much care as I do.

Having done a clutch/flywheel replacement on a KwikLift, I can attest to the value of a lift you can stand up underneath in the home garage. I only wish my garage was large enough for one. Sadly, it isn't, so the KwikLift is the best I can do.

Live well,

SJW

And, here's a question: Would anyone with a lift prefer to work off of jack stands?

Far as taking my car to a dealer to have anything done on it? But, it does raise an interesting question: I wonder how many DO take their car to a dealer to be worked on? A trusted mechanic, not withstanding; I'm talking about a new car dealership? (Besides...isn't maintaining a Corvette part of the hobby??)

i work at the biggest chevy dealer in my area in the parts department... i would NEVER take my car in to have work done. it blows my mind how much these techs dont care, all the time they will throw parts around or half *** a repair and say 'oh well its not my car.' no respect whatsoever. i dont know if other dealerships are the same, but again, NEVER let them touch any of my cars.

When I was a kid in the 60's I worked at a Chevy Dealer and I can say that the Techs (they were not called that then) were some of the best I ever seen and took pride in there job and work they did. I would say that your place of work is a BS establishment and the blame goes on the Owner.

That could be right...... But, It could also be, that 50 years ago people took more pride in the work they did....I know I took pride in whatever job I had......Today, I see alot more workers that just don't give a damn about the quality of the work they put out......WW

I have a few friends that are trained GM techs and I have stopped having them come help me work on my stuff. To them it's an object to work on and get done...so when stuff gets messed up it's "oh well...that sucks" and on to the next catastrophe...
