high performance chip
hello. I am thinking about installing a high performance chip on my 1988 vette. Do they really work and improve horsepower and are they easy to install yourself?? thank you.

My experience with my 86 was a SOTP increase for a real custom tune.
Jack D is right and until there is a real change, save your money.
Why? because most "performance" chips simply change fans on temps and fatten up the top end a bit.
No one chip can improve the "advertised" performance they claim.
Save your money, buy a cam, then get it tuned.

Take the money you would have spent on the chip and invest in a set of roller rockers.

I have one....it's in a box in my garage to remind me not to be so stupid again.....made no difference......i'd send it to you but it's for an 85...probably not the right one....otherwise, it's yours...
also have vortex ram air...air foil....too embarrassing to go on........

I had one from SLP for an '87-'88 4+3. Mine was an '87. Easy to install, but almost no difference.
I had a throttle body air foil, flowmaster exhaust, and 1.6 ratio rockers. The stock chip developed a hesitation or bog when first using light to moderate throttle. I removed the air foil and it behaved normally again. I put in the SLP chip and then I could use the air foil again.
My conclusions, the air foil and the chip made almost no difference in performance. The did do something, because I ran into drive ability issues and the chip fixed that.
Waste of money buying an off the shelf chip. Wait until or if you do mods and then get a custom tuned one.
