I drove a few C5's and didn't care for them. They felt like I was on a couch with a steering wheel. The C4 felt more like what I wanted in a car, and I've always loved the swooping lines.

Bought my 94 a few years ago, just after I retired. Yes it is a great bang for the buck ( it's a steal) but in my opinion, other than a C2, I think it is by far the nicest style. I love the car, makes me happy every time I see it.

Got mine cause it needed some work and i couldnt get over how good it looked. Wasn't a big fan of these but this one struck me for some reason. 96 ce lt4 6spd. Plus it was in my price range, first vette I've owned.

I bought mine partly because of budget. Having had a C5 and C4 (as well as a bunch of C3s and a C1) previously, I knew that I liked both cars. I had a certain budget in mind when shopping that allowed a really nice C4 of a low end C5.

I could afford a C5 or a C6 if I wanted but as it is, I drive my C4 about once or twice a month and just can't justify spending more on a car used that little. Plus I have other toys (1963&1/2 Galaxie 500XL with a 427/4 speed, a off road Jeep, a big lifted Duramax truck, a drag boat, Harley, etc) and saving to buy another off shore race boat. So instead of spending more $ to get a C5 or 6 I'd rather put it towards the race boat fund.

I was working out of town for 3 months and I drove a C6 while I was away. It was a very nice car and I liked it a lot but when I got home and took out my C4 I realized that I still liked it just fine and see no reason to get a newer Vette.

Bought my first Corvette in 2012 after all the kids had graduated college and left home. Originally wanted a C3, as that had been, to me, a Corvette for so long. First Corvettes I ever had a chance to drive were C3's. But as I began to look, and think, I really wanted fuel injection, and began to look at C4's. As I thought back to my earlier days in the Chevrolet dealerships, I remembered the excitement when the C4 was introduced. From that point forward, I narrowed my search to early C4's. Ended up with my all original '85, and haven't regretted the purchase one bit.

"Why did I buy a C4?"

#1, it's a Corvette (in spite of what our friends in C7 general may say )

#2, I could afford it without going into debt or spending my kids college fund.

#3, Like WeGone said, there's no other engine like the LT5

Am i wrong?
Yes, yes you are...
After working a number of stints in Mesa I decided it was time for a Vette in my life. In '99, while trying to decide between the style of a C3 or the tech of a C4 (didn't like the big butt of the C5), I visited a Phoenix Vette dealer. A salesman invited me to "try on" an '89. As I slid into that cockpit and that digi dash lit up I knew that I would own a C4.

I cut a deal with Corvette Mike in CA and in summer of 2000 my 35th Anni was delivered to me while I worked a summer stint in Mesa.

I still prefer the clean lines of my '88, with no air bags, claml hood, digi dash, loads of torque and easy to add performance to.

I didn't buy my 88 verte but took it on trade for one of my old vintage race cars plus some cash. At first I was wondering if I had made a mistake as my favorite series is the C-2. But since they are way out of my budget I decided (after 6 months of pestering) I would take the Verte on partial down payment plus cash. Tonight my bride and I went out to Dairy Queen for some ice cream and she said that this is a nice car and she enjoyed it. Asked when she could drive it. I told her when she can get the Gorilla tape off her hands when they were taped behind her back. At my age this is the only Vette I will ever own. Would I sell it? Nawwwwww.....I really like it and it makes a great ice cream go getter.

Because this was the vette that I wanted early in my childhood.
This was the style of vette that I favored driving in the early Gran Turismo games.
The Callaway, the ZR-1, the TPI vettes... favorites in the magazines.

When the firebird got hit and totaled by a newspaper guy, the C4 was in the right place at the right time.

Driving it confirmed everything that the GT series told me. Great handling, responsive acceleration, good brakes. I knew the second I drove the car, that it'd be the car I was gonna buy.

Thi is really good to hear guys! I got the feeling a lot of people on the forum "settled" for the C4. I guess those who did eventually move on. I like My C4 and Don't think I could bring myself to sell it any time soon. Maybe someday but I think the GTO would have to go first.

You probably already know my story, but for the record, in my case, the above is wrong.

I already had an '06 C6. I've always loved C4's -car of my child hood dreams, etc, but since I already had a "superior" C6, I bought the C4 b/c it was a cleanish, no-runner (wouldn't crank/start) that I thought I could get cheap, fix, and flip for quick $$$. I bought the C4 ('92 LT2 M6) and fixed the no-start problem. Drove the car ONE TIME, and knew that was the car for me -I didn't even have to leave my neighborhood! C6 sat in my garage for 4 months why I struggled with "why don't I love it more", when this cheap, old '92 grabbed my spirit, every time I drove it. After 4 months I gave up trying to "rationalize" the C6 and I sold it. Don't miss it at all to this day.

That's "why I bought a C4".

Nah no settling here. I coulda put a good size downpayment on a used C6 with what I had saved up for my supercharger upgrade for the firebird and what the insurance company gave me at the time. Or gotten a C5 outright.

C6 and C5 are great cars. But they feel...I dunno too tame. I like loud, and lots of feedback. They also aren't as pretty and while I think the C5 might age well going forward...I know the C6 isn't. It already looks like a Toyota compared to it's successor the C7. There's enough shared looks wise between them but where the C6 went conservative and plain jane, the C7 went bold and sharp. C6 is too curvy and stylized to call a clean design like the C4. But not bold enough to stand out, against other gens of vette imo. The C4 stands out because of how clean the design is, particularly the early cars with the concave rear bumper. We're all going to forget the C6 exists in a few decades because of the C7 imo.

C4's in order of purchase.

'85 I had wanted one since I first saw one. My roomate in school got an '85 and I was really impressed with the way it handled, accelerated, how it felt, how it looked and even the mpg. I bought mine a couple years later. (kept it for about 25 years.)

'87 I bought it because I liked the '85 so much. Bought it on vacation in Colorado. I was looking for a second Corvette as my daily driver and stumbled across it there. It was a great deal. I talked the dealer down since he had just gotten it in and I showed them it had very low oil pressure and they didn't want to mess with it. It was only a bad oil pressure sensor. Got 30 mpg on the 1000 mile trip home.

'94 Got it because I wanted the Admiral Blue and a 6 speed. It was new and exactly the car I was drooling over.

'88 Got it cheap for a daily driver on a 100 mile per day commute because it was a fun car to make the commute better and got good mpg on the highway. Sold it because it was automatic.

'94 Got the white one to replace the '88 because I wanted a 6 speed LT1.

'95 Got it because I wanted to keep a nice one. Looked for quite a while for either an Admiral Blue or a Dark Red Metallic with black interior and 6 speed. Found a low mile Dark Red and plan on keeping it quite a while.

There were a couple C5's too. A pewter FRC and a navy targa. Although I like the C5's a lot (and still have the navy one) my last purchase was the '95 just because I like them.

I was looking at C5's at the time but didn't really like the interior. Cost was also a factor but as soon as I sat in a C4 I was sold. I fell in love immediately with how the seat hugged my body. It was at that moment I knew I was buying a C4. No regrets whatsoever with my 1992 six speed I bought last week. Other than the heat related misfiring I love everything about it which will be taken care.

I can afford one, but love my C4. I have had a 1976, 1981, 1987, 1988, 1987 and I now have a 1990 with 12,000 miles. I love it and would not trade it for any other.

I got the corvette bug back in 1995 during a round the world trip.
I was at Vegas and there was a red 1995 ZR1 corvette as a prize for the slot machines, now i must have been at it for hours
trying to get the correct red white blue 7's.

I went home to Australia and just had to have a C4 corvette, i saved long and hard and a year or so later i got my 1985 corvette.
Now over here in Australia they are not cheap, well over a brand new car price range. Once you add the shipping import tax and $15,000 right hand drive conversion it was a 35,000 dollar car. So you see we really love corvettes here, you pass up buying a brand new car that is cheaper for a second hand more expensive car.

She had 30,000 miles on the clock and was a beautiful black C4, and she was MINE

I did come close to buying a mint condition black 1991 ZR1 in 2005 but i could not get enough for my 85 due to a glut of C4's and had to pass it up.

C5's don't do a thing for me, i do not like that big fat ***. sorry

Now the C6 i do like, i have my eye on a C6 ZR1 right hand drive which is cheap $170,000 LOL

Me and my C4 will have to do many more miles...
