What if a C-4 was a "supercar" ?
There are a lot of guys who will agree that the C-4 has to be an icon of Vettes since the C1-C2 generation. The sleek styling, the aerodynamics, the nose that portrays speed even though it's not moving. The lines somewhat resemble an older Ferrari (Testarossa) and the handling is actually great considering the car is over 20 years old. If I had the money and expertise and was going to modify my 88, I think that having a 6 speed transmission and a paddle shifter would truly enhance the performance and handling and be a big draw for the older C-4's. When I watch You Tube and see all the super cars I say to myself: What if you could convert a C-4 with a few of those amenities. Sigh! What's your opinion?

If you had a couple of million bucks and the expertise, you could turn a Yugo into a Super Car. But what's the point? A C4 was a pretty tough competitor back in its day, but now it is what it is. Be happy with what it is or move up to a real super-car of this decade.

Almost 30 years ago there were versions of the C4 that some journalists thought were supercars. The Calloway Twin Turbo, Guldstrand GS80 and GS90, as well as the ZR1 were pretty stout back in the day. As much as some us may hate to admit it for a lot less then what it would cost to improve a C4s handling and performance to get close to todays expectations you can just go buy a well cared for low mileage C5 Z06.

The C6's paddle shifters are great sales tools for a manual. Then, I am one who thinks 6 speedls are plenty (except on a semi, diesel truck).
The improvement in suspension from the C4 is not all that great and having had poor experience with the e-gizmos (failures), I prefer simple. Seems every article I read has expert drivers turning off that stuff with better result.
Then, I have zero Lambo-envy.

Just put a big S on the driver's door.
Right now the Vette Super Car is the C7.

not sure what it would cost to mod your C4 to the specs of the "Sledgehammer", but there's a car that went 254 mph.
and the AC worked!!! and owner drove it to and from the test track....
how much more super car do you need???
from the book "corvette from the inside", reeves callaway talked about the C4 platform was a very good platform to modify from!

Yes the ZR-1 was considered by many in its day, and with a little help will still run with many of the newer cars. My 91 has 500hp/350 stock cams, NA, 7400rpms.

I believe this record still stands -
The ZR1 is known for its top speed endurance record, where the car went at speeds over 175MPH, non stop, for 24 hours. There are NO American cars that can do this except the ZR1 to date!
That's pretty super IMO

Done what? Gone from 0-110 fast? I'd say that a C5 Z06, C6 Z06, and a C6 ZR-1 can all match or beat that video. But yes, they're getting faster every year from 1982, onward for the most part.
That was a super record, but I believe it's been beaten now (although not by a production car). Also, I'm sure there are PLENTY of cars today that CAN do it...but no doubt, none (production) have.
Glass Slipper and I had a lengthy conversation a few years ago about the possibility of a C6 Z06 doing it. The C4 did it with ~400 hp. My opinion is that power has gone so far beyond that now, a modern car could generate 400hp w/o running to or near the red line, thus improving reliability, temps, etc. For example, a C6 ZR1 with 640hp. It could probably make 400 hp at 3500 RPM
Could a ZR1 go WOT/3500 RPM for 24 hours? I think it could. And many other cars made today could too.
A "super car" can only be categorized as a super car w/in the context of it's era. Even this car is "slow", by today's standards:

I guess Super cars are Like super models, once they get old and saggy they are no longer super.
Though, often a little TLC and maybe upgrades and they both are good for many more "miles" of fun...
