How could this be . . .

Well, I guess if anyone can afford a new set of tires with less than 1 mile on the odometer it these guys! They were probably going to change to different racing tires anyway...

It just .. sits there. Calmly. With smoke pouring out like there's a smoke generator underneath it.

..holy crap.

And just consider - there's probably 700 grand between that car and the next really viable contender.

Once a few dozen cars start posting wintertime 1/4 mile times and a few more you-tube roll races, we should soon know how the C7-Z stacks up against the C6 ZR1 and other known fast cars. I'm starting to think the ZR1 might have better straight line acceleration which will probably result in prices on C6's staying high. I was really hoping to maybe see a 2009 C6-ZR1 go to $59k, but now...maybe not.

Guy doesn't know how to shift...but it doesn't look like even better shifting would have filled that deficit. Unfortunately. That was tough to watch.

But it has only trapped 125-127 and people in the c7 z06 section and flipping out after a video of it getting walked 7 times in a row ny a 2014 Viper TA. That section is insane right now.

Supposedly the Z06's ECU makes the car slower after a few runs. Read it on road&track earlier today.

The nonsense that is being spread around about the new Z is exactly that.... Nonsense. I have about 200 miles on mine and have had temps only in the 30's to drive it in so I can't give a ton on feedback. However, the fact that with equal drivers it is a coin flip race with a Gen V Viper should not be viewed as a negative. The new Viper is an awesome car in its own right. That TA in the video did cost significantly more than my Z. I'll take equal acceleration and superiority everywhere else plus my 30 grand any day

People need to relax. The new Z has exceeded my expectations and we are barely 1 week into them hitting the streets. The aftermarket will address any abnormalities or issues. Ask a Gen 5 guy about aftermarket options for his car.
Vengeance Racing and other tuners have already begun testing and have realized huge gains in performance with just a tune, pulley and air box. I will soon be having this done to my car, then at that point if someone pulls me then I will tip my hat and still have an ear to ear smile knowing that I'm driving one of the baddest cars on the planet.

I'm not particularly worried.
The Z makes more downforce, period than the Viper all day long.
It'll more than make up for it on the twisties.

With 450k views on it, youtube has paid them enough to buy new tires all the way around already.

That's sort of the new norm now, make a video of something "shocking" or "wrong" and then gather huge amounts of views to pay for whatever it is you did. They did it by breaking new iphones on launch day, blowing up PS4s, etc. Not impressed.

The real issue seems to be that they heat soak on the track. Vengeance claims "it's all in the ECU" and "they can fix it". I suspect that one of two things is true, either it was in the ECU because the car simply can't handle the extra heat and GM did it to prevent the cars from blowing up on the track, or that it's not really in the ECU and they're just trying to make some money selling a tune that doesn't fix the issues.

Yeah, if the downforce created by the front splitter and rear spoiler on the Z is greater than the Viper, then the Z will have to overcome more drag. But that downforce will help in the corners, which is what the Z is built for; the track! the later C7 Z or C8 Z will probably incorporate retractable splitters and spoilers?

Sorry folks, but aero dynamic drag is not a meaningful factor in the whoopin' that took place in that vid.

Have you guys seen the motortrend video of the '13 ZR1 vs Viper GTS? I know, different cars, but the Vette puts the whoopin on the Viper. With the new Z06 having more power than the TA, and the '13 ZR1 beating the GTS in a race, something seems wrong.

The C7ZO6 makes over 100lbs of downforce at 125 mph. The C6 ZR1 makes Lift at that speed.
That and let's face it the guy shifting in this vid is pretty terrible.

Drag is a pretty big factor on the C7 ZO6. It's unavoidable with that kind of downforce generation.

An aftermarket supercharged Z51 will wipe the floor with a ZO6.
Which...given that Callaway gives a warranty and costs about the same, if you're doing alot of straight line racing is probably the best option.

There's also the ECU controversy right now, where the Zo6 is pulling timing and fuel mapping waaay back when it gets warm. Some say it's break in period preservation. We'll see.
