Default Climate Control doesn't work...repair or replace?

Climate control on my '88 will turn on and light up but it doesn't blow any air/heat and the temp numbers go hay wire on the display. Does this sound like a repair or should I replace the entire unit. Also, would replacing the unit allow air/heat to blow or is there possible some sort of internal motor that's gone bad. Any help would be great...thanks.

On my '96 which has a different unit than yours, I had problems with it. I took it out and cleaned the connectors with spray electronics cleaner and the contacts inside with a pencil eraser (followed up with the spray cleaner). Now it works fine (for nearly three years).

You can probably do the same with yours. As shown by this thread -

Can I replace the digital climate control with a manual climate control assembly?

What I have been able to find the digital and manual are completely different. Digital is vac controled and manual is cable controed.

Or I could be completely wrong. Happened at least once before.

Not easily. The wiring harness is different and the vacuum connections are also completely different.
