my 1986 vette overhaul
Hi all, I bought this about 2 months ago as a winter project and have started ripping things apart. It had a lot of small issues but picked it up for a good price. I gutted The interior fixed the broken parts painted up some stuff and rebuilt the dash cluster (hopefully it works) because it cut out on me on the ride home after purchasing it. The center lcd was broken and polarizing film was a little sun faded. Also replace the bulbs with LEDs and the dated color display with a monochrome red lens. I sanded the rims down and painted them in satin black, think it gave the old rims some life.

I'm not a big fan myself of that wheel treatment. Sorry to say. But the car looks nice.

Love the tires, wish they still made them.

I prefer the look of the wheels in their original state as well. Something about black on black makes me think Firebird...or Knight Rider..
Either way, would like to see how the cluster came out and what you did to restore the interior.

I prefer the stock look as well, but it does not look bad at all. I have had to work a few bugs out of my 86 as well. Ecklers has some pretty intersting things for them...like the manifold temperature relocation kit. I think it was about 50 bucks - made the car run smoother. (So did cleaning out 20 plus years of carbon build up out of the plenum!)As you can see in the pic, the person I bought the car from has two of the rims facing in the wrong direction as well. I have a 96 Impala...but the Vette has been getting a lot more attention paid to it in the warm weather.

The dash looks interesting. How easy is it to change the filter for other (or stock) colors?

I noticed that too. Looks "roomy" around the wheel wells. Maybe the other tires were 255s?
We're looking at the other side of the car from the first photo though, so maybe it's just the way it's sitting on the ground in that particular spot.

The dash was pretty strait forward, I used the Youtube directions and it went smooth. As far as the difference after the wheels were painted was when the car was lowered down the wheels stayed tucked in until I moved the vette forward now it looks the same

I know, it seems it's the consensus on here that there was too many C4's made to sink a lot of money into them but as long as they keep thinking that and parting them out that's 1 more rare mine is
besides it's not about driving a retirement plan it's about having a good time

Hell my retirement plan is for them to tip me out of my chair onto a gurney and pull a sheet over my head. So I may as well drive the hell outta my car in the meanwhile!
