Default Carbon Fiber Hood Arrived

I believe this is the 2nd carbon fiber hood after RaidMagic's initial review.

The hood arrived yesterday at the body shop and I went in this morning to take a look. It looks to be identical to the one RaidMagic received delivery on.

The hood arrived in good condition and was well packed. The cuts on the underside for the venting look to be a bit better but will still need clean-up. Also the aluminum grill over the vents is loose in quite a few areas. I may replace all of it.

The finish is a bit wavy, particularly on the exposed fiberglass behind the cowl which RaidMagic also noted. For my application, much of the hood will be painted so there will be a lot of block sanding and refinishing to get a nice surface.

Initial fitment testing will be first of next week to see if the same issues are encountered that RaidMagic documented in his thread.

Photoshopped images of what the hood should look like:

Nothing wrong with the current hood, it's dark blue metallic not sure what I'll do with it.

Default i like it.

ive seen writeups on this forum saying that slotted hood vents dont provide any reduction in operating temps.

i find that hard to beleive.

does anybody know if this hood has been shown to reduce temps?

i noticed the new c7 has a vent designed to bring air in and vent out the hood. presumably for cooling.

This hood is the one Quick Z06 just created?
ventless options?
Can you post a good under hood pic. This hood is 1" total or +1" over OE?

Thank you,

Your hood looks awesome.

Id love to get a weight.

im in a dilemma:

I like the look of the carbon fiber and vents. Probably helps with cooling and high speed lift.

what is the weight on that hood?

Now....blackdogspeedshop has a 26 lb carbon fiber hood minus the vents.

I want it all. I want the vents, carbon fiber look, and weightsavings.

Im willing to pay for it....

A couple of us have ask about weight and I don't know why 89 Vette has not answered this post again, but he did post that the hood came in at 55lbs on another thread. The 55lbs will be without any latches or splash shields, or head lights. So if light weight is your goal this is not the hood for you. Probably got the hood from carbon creations, but he hasn't answered that yet. The hoods are not carbon fiber, they are just a carbon fiber look. If you want a true carbon fiber hood, those only come from Exotic Muscle and Blackdog SpeedShop. I searched and searched for a lightweight carbon hood and the two fore mentioned are the only ones I could find that are legit. Be careful out there if your goal is lightweight. Get the vendor to give you a money back guarantee in writing before sending your money.

I am still drooling over how good looking this hood is.
i dont care if it provides a real drop in engine temps or not. the venting looks cool.

And there is a weight reduction....

Can someone answer me what makes this hood weigh more than the black dog speed shop hood?

Is it thicker (ie. Stronger) carbon fiber decking?

Or is this hood using parts of the stock hood? And the carbon fiber is laid over top of the stock fiber glass?

id also love to hear if the fit is better

The bolded part is incorrect, not sure where you got your info. The top is 100% REAL carbon. The difference between these and say a lightweight carbon hood is these are two piece. The top mold is carbon, but the bottom structure is made out of fiberglass therefore increasing the weight. Trust me, I have plenty of our carbon pieces on my own Z06 and they are real carbon.

Generally a simple vented hood does not affect cooling, in the C7 the venting is part of pulling cool air through the radiator with the waterfall design. That would be great for us C4 folks but such a hood would require some redesign of our engine bay.

Thank you,
Yes, it's the hood from Quik Z06. I can measure to confirm but I believe it's a little better than 1" raise at the rear and tapers off about 2/3 down the hood. There's a fiberglass and carbon fiber option, but if you wanted ventless I presume you'd plug up the vents and probably a small drain hose for convenience when washing. Wouldn't be difficult.

I'm in the same boat as you. I wanted the venting and the look of this hood. The blackdogspeedshop hood is full carbon fiber where this one has a fiberglass interior structure, but it's also a stock design. The weight is important to me but I also wanted the vents and cowl.

Me too.

There is some weight reduction but not as much as the blackdogspeed shop hood because it's not full carbon fiber. It's carbon fiber laid over the interior fiberglass structure of a stock hood. I can't really speak to the strength... it seems to be as stiff or stiffer than the stock hood.

I just hadn't been online this weekend.

I don't think you're using "legit" correctly here.
Blackdog Speed Shop has a full carbon fiber stock hood. No vents or raise and quite a bit more at $3250. http://www.blackdogspeedshop.com/pro...h-inner-frame/

Exotic Muscle I know less about but it looks to be the same deal as blackdog, full carbon fiber stock hood, but cheaper at $2495 or $1560 for flimsier, lighter racing hood. http://emracingcorp.com/scripts/prod...?idCategory=54

This one from Quik Z06 is not as light, but an improvement over stock and has the vents and raise that I wanted. Mine is a car that gets on the track, cruises and goes to shows so strict weight savings wasn't the only goal.

So, it's the real deal and Quik Z06 is standing behind the product as far as the fit and finish. If it has the features you like it's as legit as it comes.

thanks for taking the time to reply.

on the cooling side of things....are you aware of anybody who has undertaken any fan mods or ducting mods in conjunction with vented hood designs? to address the heat soak?

my c4's have no coolent system issues, but they are still heat soaked!
