Not to mention what the car meant to Chevy, Corvette, and 'Merica in the 90's. It's a historical milestone for performance, and a huge milestone in Corvette history.

Come on, Jonathon Klein, I don't think it's right that someone who writes for corvetteforum would have the opinion that a C4 ZR1 is "still essentially a 1994 Corvette". Have a little respect.

That's like saying an L-88 c3 is just a c3. The elitist attitude of owners of the newer generations makes me pretty sad.
So, Chevy puts in a foreign designed engine instead of developing their own and that makes it a milestone for 'Merica and Corvette history?

Actually, yes it does. So far the only four cam corvette. Chevrolet (GM) developed it in conjunction with LOTUS, and was the four runner of other four cam GM engines. Four cam Vs are arguably the world standard. The LS engines are awesome engines, and better in my opinion, than the LT5 in its final production form. You probably need to look up the definition of milestone, it might be a little different than you think.

Not to mention the LT5 was built here in America by an American engine builder "Mercury Marine"

When I first responded to Inkredible’s post, I didn’t think his find would turn into CorvetteForum Tabloid trash talk.

“it’s still essentially a 1994 Corvette, and that car hasn’t exactly aged well.” - Jonathon Klien

“essentially a 1994 Corvette” - the lack of knowledge demonstrated regarding the LT-5 and its respective program, as well as what Dave McLellan & team accomplished engineering wise is immortalized here on the internet.

“hasn’t exactly aged well”... ??? Ambiguous statement, totally subjective, but you are entitled to your opinion.

Keeping in mind that GM owned over 90% of Lotus at that time...

I hope he was just trolling for a reaction. Otherwise, he has succeeded in removing 90% of any credibility he thought he had, and has cast doubt now on anything else he has or will write from now on. BIG mistake.

I don't even need to reply to this as others already have, but I will reiterate:
  • GM owned a large portion of Lotus at the time
  • The LT5 was built by Mercury Marine in the US
  • mile•stone (ˈmaɪlˌstoʊn) n. a significant event or point in development. aka, first/only DOHC V-8 in a Corvette, brought the 'Vette to the world stage in terms of performance

Apparently some Corvette owners have no interest in history, nor an understanding of how it relates to the nameplate.

I am not commenting on the Zr1 which I would love to get a chance to drive a C4 Zr1...

Is anyone else generally diappointed in the front page posts on this forum? Its almost like they are constantly anti corvette.

It's disappointing to say the least. It is my opinion that the people writing for the home page should be the biggest, most die-hard fans out of anyone. It's sad when you see degrading comments about any generation of Corvette from a website that is dedicated to them. I know the C4 is the red headed step-child of Corvettes, but people also need to realize that the advancements made in the C4 laid the groundwork for the cars available today, were light years ahead of the C3 in terms of capability and technology, and for their time were amazing vehicles!

It forced them to step up their game and stop selling us smallblocks.

$20k is a steal (assuming the car is in exceptional condition inside and out). You can't find a 94-95 zr1 in my area with similar mileage for under 30k. The person who wrote the article clearly does not know the difference between a zr1 and base c4. And to the people saying "wouldn't even pay 5k" I'm surprised you can afford any vette. Even a base model 94 with similar mileage you could almost double your money on if you picked it up for 5k. That is a no-brainer investment.

The car on ebay priced at $20K has 65K miles, so it was driven by the owner. Certainly a very low mileage example of this car could sell for twice that amount. a '95 ZR1 with only 1826 miles sold in January 2015 at Mecum for $45,000.

Something needs to done about the person that wrote the front page article. He obviously doesn't now his Corvette history. If I wanted to hear C4 bashing, I would go to another brand's forum.
Very disappointing.

The market, i.e. the law of supply & demand, determines the prices of goods. Pretty simple to understand, but the distinction between price & value is a little more complex and is lost on some people. Too often the C4's detractors make the mistake of judging them in the context of subsequent models. This is unfair, unrealistic, and ultimately insipid.

The C4 is rapidly becoming a classic. It was, in its time, a milestone car (see Corvette Challenge for proof). The ZR-1, especially a '95 model, is the epitome of this iteration of Corvette. Those who know appreciate it and understand this. All the others are simply ignorant.

Love the polo green, but there is just something about the color of this local ZR1 that tickles my fancy.

1991 ZR1 with 40K miles priced at 22K:

If I was seriously looking, I wouldn't hesitate a minute to fly out and buy one of these. They are really great deals. I plan to start down the ZR-1 path in about five years - I hope the pricing is still this good at that time...but I expect it won't be.

... or you can pick this one up that has only 2,000 miles for $48K.

What was Jonathon Klein thinking... only a 94? Get an education first.

Another beautiful example of a C4 ZR1 and well worth the $48k. I'm just curious why Jonathon Klein isn't replying to this thread after trash talking the C4 ZR1? Hopefully this thread has educated him.
