I just want 300 horses
Back in 2001 I built one up like this http://www.superchevy.com/how-to/463...ngine-build-v/
400+ hp and torque. It put an '87 S10 almost into the 11's.

That mr goodwrench build is nothing short of amazing. Not so much the supercharger part, but the other mods that took them to over 400 hp with a bargain basement replacement engine as a baseline. Proves that simple thorough prep and using known parts is a way to decent performance. What they did is easily duplicated by anyone.

No, it wouldn't. I assume you're talking about a vintage/'60's 327/300hp?
That would have been 300 gross hp, which would be more like 240-250ish hp. Unless you're talking about some other 327 that made 300 net hp? Even so, it would be much cheaper to get 300 hp from the 350 that he already has.

In which case still cheaper to go with the 350......okay not much cheaper these days.

Had a 5.3 in my Silverado. Weak-assed engine. Not a Corvette candidate.

It's every bit as stout as the LT1 in the later C4s. And twice as buildable. (Cha0s's engine started life as a 5.3)
The reason it feels weak in the silverado is the silver weighs over 2 tons, and has the aerodynamics of a barn to go with it.

I hated that engine. Always wanted more cubes. It never felt like a 300 HP engine.
But I'll take your word for it. It got mileage like a 300HP truck engine. Never better than 15.

Equally jaw dropping was driving a manual 2014 Camaro SS, and having it feel....tame compared to my mildly modded L98 C4. Even though the acceleration on the speedo was similar, it sure as hell didn't feel awesome by any means...cause the camaro is fat. (3800lbs and change with the trim level I was test driving).
The Monte felt a hell of alot quicker than the Camaro SS which has like 125ish more horsepower than the monte.
Nothing less than 6 liters should even be offered in a pickuptruck imo.
Weight matters.

The 5.3L is a good option for a swap. I have one in my C4, and IMHO it is a much better engine then the LT1 that was in the car. I don't know its new top speed. The LT1 struggled to reach 150mph in 5th, and the 5.3L effortlessly reaches 120mph at the end of 4th. As a bonus for me it also gets better gas mileage. Most of my driving is at 70mph, and I am getting an average of 27mpg.

327 cubic inch = 5 358.569 928 cubic centimeter
So a real 327 in today's jargon would be a 5.4 Liter.
Here's an '03 that weighs 5240 lbs.
C&D Road Test
And an '07 at 5600 lbs
C&D Road test
That's a lot for 300 hp to haul around.
