Which is also why a 390 horse dodge ram is only as fast as a Bone Stock 1984 in the 1/4.

The recent Trailblazers are shorter, lighter, and carry the 5.3L Vortec pushing 300 HP.
After all - the Trailblazer SS do have the block built to LS Corvette specs.

Far from a sluggish response

I should add that my Silver had big tires and a lift kit when I bought it. So I knew that was sucking power. Maybe I have new respect for the engine now, with what you fine folks have revealed to me.

*shrug* Gave it to the ex in the divorce anyway.

Don't forget that big tires will further slow it down, and to maintain acceleration with them you need steeper gears.

*nodding* That's why I mentioned it. And wider tires will take mileage/power down as well.

John I decided to use a 99 vortec engine with cam, vortec intake, 4 barrel, zf 6 speed. Was prompted by advice here. Closed for now.

Can I ask why you opted for a carb instead of FI?

I grew up in the carburetor era, and since buying FI cars the last many years, unless it's a '68 or older car, I really prefer FI.
