You could just buy a 1992 or later C4. I have two 93's and a 96. Love 'em all! Just a friendly thought

Set of Vortec heads and a cam upgrade. 300HP is easy for a small block.

In a Past Camaro I used a Speed Demon 650 Vortec heads and a LT4 cam (it is a roller though) and made 325hp +

Look at Jegs SDPC or Summit racing their GM Crate engines and it will give you a cheat sheet. ZZ4 crate motor is 350HP with the ZZ4 cam and Vette alum heads.

Back in 2001 I built one up like this http://www.superchevy.com/how-to/463...ngine-build-v/
400+ hp and torque. It put an '87 S10 almost into the 11's.

On a 350 CI there are many article of how to make 400+ hp safely and easily.

Heads/ cam/ intake/ exhaust. Do gears and you got a fun car for a cheap price.

300 with a carburator?

Heads, and a double pumper will do.

If you go with vortec heads, there are some aftermarket ones that have dual pattern bolt holes for the intake. More $ though. Vortec can make an easy 30 to 40 hp, but read up on them, there's some stuff to do if you're using a bigger cam. Not all Vortec heads are equal, so make sure that you don't pickup the wrong pair.

Just put in some rear gears 3.54 or 3.73 and a 100 hp shot of NOS. That should get you about 360 hp. cheap and easy and the chicks will dig the big blue bottle in the hatch. Then add a stereo system that will blow the panties off.

rear gears $1200
NOS $900
Stereo $1500
Some sweet wheels $1400

these are just guess prices I am old and out of it, it could cost more or less.

And if that doesn't work go to plan B, buy a C7 or a viper.

If you're going inside the block, a stroker (383) gives you the low end grunt damn near a BBC.

Absolutely BEST to define the car's use, not some arbitrary HP figure.
