Default RE: new top

I need a new top for my 87 coupe. Original top cracked last year. Need blue or solid top. Not sure of some of the aftermarket sellers' quality. Any ideas. Can you steer me in the right direction?

You would have no problem with a Melrose lens and if it were important they should also have some of the OE lens for some upcharge.

Be aware your insurance may cover this. My '84 top (glass) cracked and was replaced by insurance co.

I also have a cracked top for my '96. Frame and stripping is perfect. There is a place in Poplar Grove IL that advertises re-lens starting at $249. I was going to give them a call since they seem much less expensive than the other companies. Right now I don't know much about them and can't find much info. on the web. Maybe someone here has heard or worked with them.

Here's the site: www.corvettefactory.com

Thanks and wish that would help. My deductible is too high for it to make sense to go through insurance.

I don't know about AL, but there's no deductible on glass in FL. Insurance picked up the entire amount of mine. Never know, check it out.

I checked right away and my policy covers it, but after my deductible. I really just need to know who to go to for a OEM quality top without the dealer price.

Interesting. I understand FL law is this way, no deductible, as they don't want cars around with any broken/cracked glass since it's dangerous.

Melrose is highly recommended around here.

I bought a top 13 years ago from Thompson, the Astro people. I had no problems with it like folks here have mentioned. YMMV. The top is still on my car and fits/looks fine. It's blue tint.

If your choice is between a blue (transparent) or a solid top, if it was me I would opt for the solid. When I ordered my '86 I thought the bronze (transparent) top would be good. During the peak summer weeks it would get so hot it was unbearable. I got the static cling liner to cut out the sun.
Don't know what color your '87 is but I think the solid tops on a C4 look great.

I'd love to put a solid top on it - - if I could find one. Mine is Medium Blue with a blue interior. Wouldn't care what color the top was as long as it fits. Maybe I'm not looking in the right places, but I'm not finding a solid so far. I agree that the solid might be a better all around choice.
