I ended up buying The Nitto 555's. From what I understand Kumho discontinued the tire size I needed. The distributor said he could round them up but they would have to come from 3 different places.
What tire size are people running if they are using the same tire size on all 4 corners with stock rims? Something more readily available?

My '96 base coupe had near new Maxxis tires on it when I got it 15 months ago. I had never even heard of Maxxis before that. They were the proper 255/45-17 on the front, but mounted on rear sawblades. The rear were 275/40-17 on rear sawblades. Looked weird, drove weird, vibrated. I got a pair of front sawblades from a CF member, had the front tires mounted on them and had all 4 rebalanced, better. I drove it all summer and on good weather days during the winter.
After less than 7k miles of "non-aggressive" driving, the fronts look okay, but the rears were down to the wear bars. I went in to Discount Tire 3 weeks ago to get the Continental Extreme Contacts in the proper sizes. They had to order them (it was a Saturday, so they had to wait until Monday to order them). By Friday, the rears had arrived, but only one of the fronts. They said the other one was in route; so I waited until the following Wednesday, hadn't heard from them, so called - no tire, no word. They promised to call Continental and see what was up. On Thursday, I got a call that another tire was being overnighted. By Monday, hadn't heard anything, so called again - no tire, no word, they would check into it. By now, the wear bars on the rears are almost worn out.
So, went in Tuesday to have the rears mounted. They still didn't know what was up with the 2nd front tire, other than they were on national backorder, and Continental promised to get one out of their "emergency spares" to ship to us. I got a call today that it finally has arrived (and now it's about to snow).
All I can say is that just having the rears on is already an improvement. We'll see after the fronts are mounted, too.
What a pain, though.
Maybe I should order the next set now...

On the rears you can go to 275 40 17 forget 285 since they are not out there. They ran that size, 275s for a lot of years. Contact me if you want all acceptable sizes.

Just purchased Nitto 555’s for all four corners.
Fronts: 255/45 ZR-17
Rears: 285/40 ZR17
The cost of the tires with tax was $545.00, this does not include mounting/balancing costs.

Just put the same Nitto's on my GS. Stock original size. So far I love them! Much quieter than the GSC Goodyear's. Rides better too. Discount tire direct $650 to the door!

I will have to report back on that. I bought them from a NTB (National Tire & Battery) dealer. I pick them up on Monday and am going to have a local Corvette specialty shop (http://www.corvette-care.com/index.html) install them. They’re perfectionists and use custom camber/caster/toe settings that enhance handling.
