Default Is this a stock air box?

I was looking to change the air filter on a 1990 I picked up 2 years ago. I have read of so many doing an airbox mod or replacing with one that flows better.

This is what was on mine. I cannot image something else getting much more air in. Is this after market??

Thanks

Yes, that is the stock cover. The modification is to cut all the louvers out leaving the two center pieces (about 1/2" wide) or remove everything just leaving the outside band. Cheap and easy modification that will flow a little more air.

Here is a video on cutting the air box. This is from a earlier C4 but the process is the same.

Modded mine to match the decat and eliminators. Probably little benefit but it makes me happy

When you add up the area of all those slots, it still has more Sq. In. area than the throttle body blades. Why bother to cut them out?

Yup. I'd love to see numbers proving the benefit of this modification. "Because it breathes better" only proves everyone has an opinion. IMO this is just another waste of time and another reason to keep the car as it was designed.
