Default Cleaning coolant recovery tank

Any tips on cleaning a coolant recovery tank? Its on a 1996 thats had Dex Cool in it.I've used some warm water mixed 50/50 with CLR.I've got 98% of the crud out.Just can't seem to get it a 100% clean.Hate to put it back on with a little crud still in the tank...

I bought some different size bottle brushes at target. you can bend them at various angles to get inside and scrub the inside of the tank. worked pretty good - think I just used simple green and water. anyway, got mine as clean as it's going to get -

That was my plan for the tank.

How did you tackle the radiator? That is my hurdle right now. I am actually debating just replacing it. If the recovery tank is any indication of what is in the rest of the system....

Another way to clean the tank is to throw in a handful of clean small gravel along with your cleaner, then shake it around for a few minutes.

I bought a small bag of fish-tank gravel from a pet store and threw it in the jug with some vinegar. Closed the lid and shook it around for a couple of minutes, let it sit for a while and shook it some more. After a few cycles of this it looks like a brand new tank!
I took the nasty rusty looking vinegar and pored it along my curb to kill the weeds growing out from the curb. Dumped the fish-tank gravel in the driveway and rinsed it off with water and put it in a ziplock baggie for the next cleanup.

I've done this few times on different cars. Remove the tank, pour some sand, and small pebbles in the tank, and shake it like you were making a drink. No chemicals required, I guarantee it will be looking like new in less than 3 minutes.
