Default Collector's Edition wheels ??

I have a set of 96 CE wheels in good shape. Look to be the same width on all four. Do I need a spacer for these to fit correctly on my 87? Any suggestions on tires?

The size is cast into the rear of the wheels, They should fit fine if the they are 8.5 or 9.5 by 17.

The 9.5" wide wheels will sit 3/4" further inside of the '87 wheelwell. It will bolt on and there will be no rubbing issues but that 3/4" difference will be visible. You can use a 3/4" or 1" adapter in the rear and also in the front.

If all the wheels are 9.5" wide, you can use a 275/40-17 tire on all 4 corners. That way you can rotate the tires for longer life. That size tire aslo has nearly identical dimensions as the OEM 255/50-16 tire.

I seem to have been caught by my slow typing. I've pretty much duplicated "c4cruiser's" response so I'll toss in an

I believe the "fit" isn't an issue but the "appearance" of the tire/wheel in the wheel-house will require a spacer. There's arguments as to which, a 3/4"/19mm gets the later wheel to the "fit' of the earlier when compared to 9.5 wheels. A 1"/25mm is preferred by some to further fill the wheel-house.

You do need to confirm from the wheel casting information of what you do have though.

You could measure if you like, an 8 1/2" wheel will measure nearly 9 1/2" total wheel width and a 9 1/2" wheel will measure nearly 10 1/2" total wheel width.

I just measured one of the wheels (the other three are boxed in storage) and it measures at 10". Exactly. (Max width of the wheel). The only marking on the wheel is a "GM" stamping in raised relief between one of the spokes.

The size should be cast into one of the spokes on the inside of the wheel.

The wheel with the GM casting and measuring 10" TWW is a Camaro wheel. It's actually a 9" wheel and should be a 50mm offset. I don't believe that should change the plan regarding spacers/adapter but it would maybe favor a 19mm - 3/34" selection. Like "WeGone" mentioned the dimensions including offset is likely on the back of the wheel.

*** Actually if it's a 50mm I might certainly consider a 25mm - 1" spacer/adapter.

Mounted as is the wheel would be "sucked in" close to the same amount as the 9.5 Corvette choice, when compared to an early car with 9.5 and 38mm offset.

Not sure that these were on a Camaro. I got them from a guy in Denver a few years ago who said they came from a CE Corvette, and all four wheels have the Collector's Edition center cap on 'em (all the centers are perfect condition, btw). Will check all the wheels a little later when I dig the others out from their storage boxes and take a close look for a stamping on the insides of the spokes. Must've missed something there when I looked earlier.

Alrighty then... In better light, I saw this (through a little dirt) -- 17X9J 50. Don't know what the J would indicate, but that's the stamp in the inside of one of the spokes. Also decided that these wheels will need to be refinished before I use 'em.

Doin' a little bit of research on the net, and ... these may be Camaro wheels as previously noted. Does that mean using a 1" spacer all around to look right on my '87?

J is the flange type of the wheel and you don't need to be concerned with that. Do you have 9.5 wheels now X 4 or do you have 8.5 fronts and 9.5 rears?

If you have 9.5 X 4 then the 9" with a 3/4" spacer will be nearly an identical match with what you've got. A 1" spacer would add about a 6mm push outboard when compared to the 9.5 you have NOW.

I generally only compare to the "widest stock available"

My '87 is a Z52 (and trying to recall what the wheels should be with that package...) I seem to recall that they are 9.5 rear and 8.5 front. Could be flat out wrong on that, though...

My 87 Z52 had 9.5 all around, front and back. Changed to 17 inch a couple years ago.
