Not the vats.

Starter solenoid, or the starter is your problem (most likely the solenoid).

Won't start, or won't crank?

Solenoid or starter motor then, most likely.

Hey what happens with the starter is after it gets old and the windings develop a varnish or corrosion, plus the fact that the armature that spins gets warped or oblong a touch, when it gets hot it expands making contact with the wall and top that with a varnished solenoid connector it just gets stuck. If you jump it it probably would start with the extra energy. I bought a duralast starter 2 yrs ago for 35 bucks and it still works great. I know duralast but I figured it would break but it hasn't.
Good luck

Have the parts store test it before replacing it....most will do that for free. If you have a remote starter switch (cheap and available at any parts store) you can test it on the car. If it turns over with the remote switch, the problem is elsewhere. If it doesn't (assuming battery is fully charged) then the starter/solenoid is bad.

I'm a big believer in troubleshooting before replacing anything. It sucks to spend the time to R&R the starter only to find out it wasn't the problem.

Have your parts store do a load test on the starter in the car while cranking. Generally not starting when hot is a connection most likely ground.
