Is the material in C4 bodies the same as the material in C5 bodies? I'd like to know if C4 bodies develop cracks like I've seen in C3's but I know that a new process was developed for c5's.

That "new" process was developed for the C4's. It won't crack like
the C1's-C3's will.

Sheet Mold Composite materials were introduced to the corvette in the early 70's..... The composition may have changed slightly to get a little lighter but the technology has remained the same. Just my .02

Sorry but I must disagree. 1984 C4's were the very first Corvettes with the composite mold process. Fiberglass was used in all the Corvette generations up to the C4. They stopped using the old fiber glass technology in 1982.

Just to clear up the misinformation posted; reference the material put out by GM on the subject specifically paragraph 6

I am glad you posted this to clear up any misunderstanding. And the SMC from the 70's is different than the SMC of today...because the resin used in manufacturing is different....thus....the correct type of adhesive is required....even though the SMC looks the exact same.
