Here is what I know from working on aircraft. A 2.5# dry chemical will do the same job as a 5# halon but make a huge mess and works better on gas fires. It is very corrosive. Can't speak for co2 cause we only use it on the flight line in large bottles. Halon and halotron are the same. Halon is the old model. This is the main type we use inside the aircraft.

Nice Falcon 20. Is it a 10 seater with a pair of Honeywells pushing it through the air ?

Ya that one has the upgraded 731 engines with the glass cockpit. I have 4 of them I take care of. 2 old school and 2 upgraded. About to add a falcon 10 to the list.

Halons cost quite a bit more than the powder type. A friend of mine told me he got a deal on one for $125.

The powder type makes a mess but it washes off with water. i paid about $28 for mine.

Look into ColdFire: www.coldfire.biz
I believe NASCAR uses it.

You can get it in a spray can.

I personally witnessed a demonstration of coldfire on my forearm with a highway flare.
It's for real and the benefit when extinguishing cockpit fires is priceless.
Douse the driver first then extinguish the flames.

When I looked at ColdFire a few years ago you could not buy a fire extinguisher with ColdFire. You had to buy their "stuff" and mix your own and put it in a fire extinguisher bottle and then have it pressurized. Something about not being able to ship a pressurized container.

If you can buy it locally that would solve the problem. I didn't see a list of dealers on their web site.

From their FAQs:
"How is Cold Fire™ sold?
Cold Fire is sold in 5 gallon pails, 55 gallon drums and 275 gallon totes for fire departments, commercial and industrial applications. Cold Fire is also sold in 8 oz, 12 oz. spray cans and 32 oz. spray bottles for trade, tool, and racing applications."

IMHO the Halon is best, it is clean and effective. It would take 5 Lbs. of Halotron to be as effective as 2.5 lbs. of Halon. I bought my mount and Halon 1211 at Vetteworks.
