Default 86 c4 driveshaft u joints

I need to replace the u joints on my 86 pace car. Everything I can find references the half shafts , which i am not replacing, The local garage I use says five hours but have read its less I am thinking they are basing it on the labor for half shafts which seems much more difficult and I would not try, has anyone changed then one on driveshaft? how difficult and any special tools required. Five hours seems a bit long for drdiveshaft, I am sure these have been in for almost thirty years and will not just pop right out, any advice would be appreicated tks

You do realize that they have to take the cross brace and the c-beam off before they can get to the driveshaft u-joints? Harder than many rear drive cars where you just have to drop the drive shaft and press in new u-joints.

Plus you have to remove the exhaust.

Be very careful.
Shortly after I purchased our 86 I needed to replace the U-joints.
........five thousand dollars later.........

That's the problems I always seem to have with cars, motorcycle, tools, etc.

Drop the exhaust from the cat back, the C beam can stay. Unbolt the joint straps and there is enough play up front to pull the rear joint free from the diff. No harder than the half shafts. If you have a cross brace, it's 8 bolts.

I just replaced the half shaft u joints on my 87, it was a chore. Original u joints, everything rust covered, had to buy a 10 ton press to get them out of the shafts. It was worth it though, eliminated some vibration and noise I had. Got the Neapco Brute ujoints from Rockauto, on a closeout, $4 each
