OK to run 245/50/16s?

I have an 86 standard suspension with oem 8.5" rims. Mine had 245/50/16's on it when I bought it the other year and they are working fine. Only issue you'll see is the speedometer will run a little faster than you're actually going.
No problems, no issues here.

Should be no problems.
Most of the tire manufacturers say to use a 7" to 8.5" wide wheel with that size tire. (check Tire Rack web site. For any tire you are looking at, look at the tab for "specs". It will show the recommended rim width range for that tire.)
As hcbph said, the speedometer will be slightly off. The 255/50/16 tire is 26.1" tall and the 245/50/16 tire is 25.7" tall. That means if your speedometer was correct with the 255 tires, the 245 tire will be doing 59.1 mph when the speedometer reads 60 mph. To me, within one mph at 60 is close enough to not get me into too much trouble.
Good luck.

I bought new 245s for my 86, all around. They run fine. I had them on when I went to the drag strip and made 4 runs. They did fine except the spun a bit more than I like, but then, they are not designed for racing/traction. Buy them and don't worry about it. Oh, and mine is a Z-51.

My brother ran 225-50-16 on his 84 back in the late 80's. They looked too small but they were cheap and they worked fine. I have ran 245's on several cars they are much cheaper.

Anyone have experience with these Kumho Ast tires? says 8.5 max but would they be fine for even 9.5?
Couldn't find any deals on tires and the price is right on these.

If you search for all the tires in that size there are a few more options.

Actually the next two are cheaper after rebates. I like either the Hankook or the Cooper bettter than the one you selected. It looks like the Hankook may be out of stock though.
Good luck.

How about some pics of 245/50/16s on your Corvette? I have Falken Ziex 255/50/16s and the shoulder is so round that it looks smaller than that. It mildly irritates me.

I think because of the rounded shoulder and narrower tread. I think the same would apply to the 245 sizes, some brands/models of tires can run bigger or smaller, so check out the one you want before you buy.
Good luck.

They run the rebate deals fairly often at various holidays. They were doing $100 a couple of years ago and now it varies. Last time was $50 and this time it was $75 for most. This year they have also started doing the rebates a few days before the holidays and not extending to the holiday itself.
If past practice is any indication, the next time will be around Labor day.

Not a great pic, but 245 BFG g-Force all seasons. Been about six months, the feel is good, the sound is good and the speedo difference is negligible.

Thanks. Would love more pics.
