C4 discussion on Jalopnik
For those that don't look at Jalopnik, they recently had a "Now that C4's are dirt cheap would you daily drive one". The "Regular Car review" guy did a video on one, unfortunately it was a pretty weathered one, but the premise is, C4s can be had at very affordable prices.

Well there were so many comments on that article, that they did a follow up article just on what people said, and my car got the "lead" photo, and conclusion statement.

I read the first one last week when it showed up in my Google News feed. The large number of positive comments from people that know what they're talking about was nice.
The ones offering a differing opinion are entertaining.
1 The C4 is the least attractive Corvette
2 Cramped and uncomfortable
3 No room for my children
4 Poor gas mileage
1 Subjective
2 I drive premium rental cars all the time. Nothing matches the comfort or ergonomics of my C4 interior
3 Drivers of sports cars do not care about transporting children
4 Drivers of sports cars do not care about mileage
There's one more...
are you ready for it?
5 Can buy 2 4th gen Taurus (my current ride) for $5k
/fail

And yes, that guy got flamed pretty good for suggesting a Taurus over a Corvette. In his defense, yes a Corvette is not a good car when you have kids, that's why I daily drive a Fusion plug in Electric. Its like a guy reading a review about a Ferrari and then saying how dumb the car is because it can't tow his horse trailer.

the companion story to that that had 560 comments...i actually read A LOT of those, took forever for some of the ones way down to load on my phone...but there were some good stories/comments on there about the C4.
sure there were some not great comments, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. but overall i felt that the feedback was positive, they were certainly fun to read.

Gotcha! Looks like you have some serious fun with yours. Funny how between the two articles and the video, there's a lot of white C4s. I'm kind of partial to those myself.

funny someone compared it to the early 90s camry's, the 91 has a 115hp engine, and the 92 & 93 only have 130 hp engines.
not sure where people are getting their facts...odd...

I guess I'm in the minority then - I sold the C5 in my avatar after 4 years of ownership in order to seek out and buy a C4. My high mileage (168K) daily driven C5 was well sorted, extremely reliable and turned in great gas mileage. I just wanted to try a C4 for a while and I did not have the room to keep the 1999, or I would have. Luckily my brother was wanting a vette, so he bought it, at least keeping it in the family, though its now several states away. While I have only had my 1991 L98 for 2 months, I love driving/owning it. Makes me wish I made the switch earlier.

When I was much younger, I used to really enjoy driving small 4 cylinder cars, trying to wring the absolute most out of them. Had an old, dented and rusty Fiat 124 Spider I drove the **** out of for several years. Didn't care that it looked bad; it was FUN to drive.
That said, maybe I just have a thing for quirky cars that aren't mainstream. Although the Corvette badges on my 86 are a proud thing in my garage. There's nothing like throwing this car into a corner, stomping on the gas, and riding a rail around the corner to the next fun spot in the road.
I could spend a lot more and get something the crowds love (Porsche, BMW, whatever) but I love American cars and this one was on top of the world in 1986. Frankly, it has more performance than I can use on the streets. It's my daily driver in the summertime here in the Northwest.

re:"One of the worst built cars I have driven"
well, obviously the owner if this statement didn't drive an '82 chevy citation...i thought that was the worst car i'd ever driven!!!!
to seu318-went from a C5 to a C4 (and a 91 L98 even!)...that deserves it's own thread or some further comments!!!!!

There's always a bunch of hate for c4s when something like this shows up. And, it's always from two types of people:
1.) those who read something on the internet written by someone who's friend heard this about them or
2.) "Well I drove one and it was bad, but I'll leave the part out about how it had 150,000+ miles on it, was kept outside under an old oak tree, and was never properly take care of... but I'm sure they all must be just like that one!"
Everybody thinks they're an expert nowadays.

Lot of morons out there, that's for sure.
Then again, Jalopnik kind of regularly proves that.
I don't think it's name, has Jalopy in it by coincidence, because that's probably what most of it's reader base drives.

70's oil embargo, the switch to unleaded = most American cars were damn boring from the mid 70's until the 90's.
The Corvette is the exception, now 25+ years later the "brain farts" are dumping on Vettes? Get a job.

I have owned 9 Vettes (69,94,96,01,02Z,03Z,06Z,12Z,15Z) and i can honestly say that even though the preformance of my 96 is not even close to most of the other Vettes that i have owned i enjoy driving it as much as any other car that i have owned. If i had to get rid of one of my two Vettes now the 15Z would be the one looking for a new home
I think C4's get the rap that they do because there are alot of them that are ragged out on the road. Most Vettes that are older are survivor or better type cars and the C5's and newer arent old enough to be beat to hell yet. Once the garbage is weeded out the C4 will lose its stigma... imo

I just think, "you've only seen ones that have been beat to hell and back." Who judges something based on a sub-par sampling?
