I think any car from 1991, unless it was a new generation, would have an 80's feel. So knock the C4 for that if you will... but maybe that's a more valid criticism for even later C4's (like my '96!). I think it's safe to say that the C4 lived longer than it should have. It was also definitely the same way with the C3, so the C4 is not alone in that regard.

I dont understand this retro bashing of old cars. Lots of people happily lined up to buy them each model year and the used sales are still good. The c4 forums activity level is evidence of their ongoing popularity and desirability. Sure it wont touch a new c5,6 or 7. Thats not the point.

And maybe if Matt put the fork down once and awhile he wouldnt overwhelm the seats with his girth.

Yeah, I really don't get that either.
Guy needs a damn subway diet, that's for sure.

Did I hear correctly but the owner claimed that the ZF 6 speed was optional for '91 and the Doug Nash 4+3 was still being offered?
AFAIK the 4+3 was the only manual through '88 and the ZF was the only manual transmission after that.

Listening to tubby blabber was bad enough. "even though this his the Z51 it still feels more like a caddy" yeah it's not like the car's a work in progress, and is 24 years old
I'm amazed he didn't complain that the AC sucks too because after 25 years it doesn't work right either.
I caught the 4+3 thing too. Yeah last year was 88. 89 and up had the ZF6.

The best title for this could have been "Let's be morons, and review this 24 year old car, as if it were just off the show room!".

The owner was almost as ignorant as the joker driving. Just stating what he heard or misread. No idea why the employ Matt anyways. He is not even a car guy. I can cut the kid slack, but what is the point of this dumb ride and the driver hose has no idea what he is driving, nor did he do any research. Just drives a car and comments on sound and dash. Most of the youtube comments are more stupid then the video content.

My 94 Z07 has functioning and maintianed suspension. I would never mistake it for a cadillac ride. Cleary the cars owner chased horsepower before anything else. Its unfortunate that a Highschool kids car was used in the video. I'd like Matt to take out 5abits Zr1 or a similarly prepped car and get the reaction.

Definitely couldn't mistake my 89 for a caddy ride.
It's not bone jarring sure, but it's plenty firm. More so than whatever tubby drives daily for sure.

It was pretty obvious that C4 hasn't really been maintained all that well. It had an interior...but the brakes weren't even right for crying out loud.

The worst part is, people actually look to people like tubby for "expert opinions".

For a 24 year old car that has been somewhat neglected except for the power train, I thought it was a really fair review. I always enjoy watching Matt's videos and think he is one of the most unbiased car reviewers out there. While some of the kid's "facts" may not be entirely accurate, I think they both hit on all the strong points. Good power, reliable, affordable, and most of all, fun. I think as the video went on you could tell Matt was starting to become a little more comfortable with the car and enjoy it for what it really is. What else can you buy with that prominence from that vintage for that amount of money? Not much out there that compares. I think they captured that idea in the video, which is what the C4 is all about to me and why many of us own them.

I think it would be interesting to get Matt into a better C4 like 5abits Zr1 or Pete's Ghost. It would change his entire opinion on the generation I feel.

For what its worth, he is somewhat of a Corvette guy. He daily drives a pretty heavily modified C5. He also owns an Aston Martin and a few other cool cars.

wonder what a "women" like that would have thought of my old 70 ls6 chevelle, crank windows, am radio, no air and a bench seat. Loud, rough riding, rough running piece of American steel. Its kind of the reason I like a c4. It has that same old muscle feel to it. Docker wearing yuppys need not apply.

Exactly. And I think Pete isn't too far from Matt. So he should drive the Ghost

interesting video and look at that 91. i didn't think there was anything wrong w/ the comments.

i guess i'd like to know what the cost of the mods to the engine he did to get that L98 up to 380hp????????

an L98 up to 380hp (or so) would erase the bad rap of that engine for the early year of the c4s!!!!

He has a new engine and a ZF6. Why wouldn't it be?

Yeah, you'd be correct. BUT is it really 380 hp? (Certainly NOT at the rpm shift point in the video...)

I wonder what the comments would be if he rode in a ZR-1 like this? 1980s hell! Many a C5 and C6 falls to these lightly modded beasts!

LT-5, is such a lovely engine.
Considering the serious work it takes to get 380 horse+ out of an L98, I doubt that kids is 380. Not on a highschool budget... not unless daddy and mommy have been Very Generous. (And stupid imo, giving him a 400hpish car)

It's certainly interesting - I like the raw feel of the C4. I have a 993 Porsche as well and it drives and feels much older than it is, yet people praise it for that. It's all perspective. Sometimes the flaws of a car give it character.
