Default 1986 C4 Burnoff and power relays for the MAF

I am working on getting everything correct on my 86 corvette that I purchased. I ordered new burn-off and power relays from Mid America, The issue that I am having is I know they are behind the battery, the issue is I don't know which one is which, by that I mean, when I purchased the vehicle the owner changed it over to a carb system, ive changed that all back to tune port and he disconnected the relays so I have two wire harnesses laying there and don't know which one goes to which one. Can someone explain the difference between the two and let me know how I can figure out which harness goes to which relay? Thank you

I have a 88 beleive it needs both relays behind battery! When I had a MAF code I changed both of them. The relay on fender well if fan the one between master cylinder and distributed is fuel pump!

Control relay for an '86 is I believe pinned like this:

A - PURPLE

B - BLACK/WHITE

C - RED

D - DK BLUE

E- ORANGE

The other is the burn off

A - DK BLUE

C & E ORANGE

B - BLACK

See how closely those match the connectors you have hanging. Do your new relays match the connectors OR did you get relays and connectors. I'm not near an '86 FSM but likely will be in the AM.

Cliff might be by later and clarify OR maybe post the wiring diagram.

There were some TSB's also that may have called for replacements of and different connectors so you might just post back the "pin-out of the connectors you have questions about. They should be easily identified with letters on the connector. LETTER & COLOR

looking at my 86 FSM, the MAF sensor burn off relay is the one towards the middle of the car, and the MAF sensor power relay is the one on the outside towards the drivers door. IT LOOKS like the MAF burn off relay has an orange wire and a dark blue wire going to it with a black wire . Maf sensor has the purple wire Black and white wire,

I answered this in the other thread 86corvetteguy posted in Tech. (Please only post in one section -- it gets too confusing to keep track of the answers otherwise).

You mentioned buying 'new' and Cliff posted in your other thread what the correct part #'s would be and here's a couple good reads regarding an '86 and MAF:

http://www.corvetteforum.net/c4/rayq...sbs/87-270.htm

Both are compliments of user "RAY QUAYLE". If you own an '86 there's much to be learned from Ray.

Did you ever figure out which one was which? Looking to replace my burn-off if it tests bad and not sure which one is which either.

Is it the one closest to the body panel?
