Default Texas Dyno emissions test ?

How much can you know about the condition of an engine with it passing
this type of test. Would it pass if it had any real problems ?
(on a 1995)

Thanks for any info. on this type test.

The emissions checks are by county (same way in Ohio).

Whatever counties didn't meet the 1990 clean air act standards require emissions checks.

The counties that did meet the standards don't have emissions standards.

Pecos county Texas for example, doesn't have emissions checks

To answer your question....yes this is a good check to see if oxygen sensors and stuff are working.

Missouri stripped that requirement out on pre-96 automobiles and I am very surprised Texas has not.......On a federal level that is not required on pre-96 cars........it's up to the states; those dyno-emission checks are unsafe depending who is operating them to the vehicle, and very unreliable.....it's a sham that should be completely abolished....some of those operators cannot even drive a stick shift car...very bad idea.....

a few years ago the idiots ran the dyno test on my 89 with the e-brake on, toasted everything in the rear, and then tried to say it was my fault. lawyer had a field day with this one.

So one can not gain much knowledge about engine condition by knowing
it has passed this type of emissions test ? Is that correct ?

I would disagree. You can gain some engine knowledge from this test (ex. If it's burning oil and/or cats are bad you are going to see excess hydrocarbons in the report)

Some of the operators don't know how to drive stick. Be aware

All bad news with this stuff. As stated it's a sham. Most people have horror stories about it. A person knowing what to look for can know, and a person knowing how to use the equipment can tell more but it's not designed to measure the car as much as what the car is putting out in the air.

I took a gamble taking my car in to get tested, knowing full well it ran like crap because the opti was going out. Car leaked like a sieve too.

It passed LOL and I could here it popping and misfiring the whole time.

A week later I replaced the opti and the seals that leaked. Car runs perfect now.

If the tester in California is a stickler he can fail a car with visible leaks of any fluid.

Any state or county that is still strapping down 20+year old cars on expensive , unreliable machines with inexperienced , untrained operators has a foolish policy....it's a sham between the state, county, owners of the machines, and repair shops....there is not enough emissions coming from these 20+ vehicles that are still left on the road and how often they are driven for anyone to be concerned with....get more carbon pollution from a volcano eruption...give me a break....

It would have to have issues to fail. That said, in 4 years a 1995 will no longer need to pass emissions check in Texas. In 5 years all C4s will be exempt.

It left a small plate sized puddle of oil and they said if they knew it would of done that they never would of tested it.

It just felt good to have gambled and won. I totally expected them to tell me to come back, but like mentioned above, most of the people that work at those places have no clue how to do their job, let alone ANYTHING about how cars work. That's what I was gambling on and it paid off
