Balance LT1 383 Stroker
It hurt's to say I am confused but I need help. Reading the different threads Haven't helped. Issue--broke the crank on a 1992 Lt1, (383 Stroker). The engine builder is at a loss and/or afraid of how to balance the new rotating group. The engine was built before we bought it so--? The facts are the crank broke at the front main, it is an automatic, any weight changes to the H/B or flex plate is unknown. Don't want a repeat of this. How can we balance this?

What crank was used???? To many people skimp on critical internal parts.. And $overspend$ on non critical parts.
A typical 383 block is blue printed. Usually zero decked. Then internally balanced. Most Shops will give you a print out. All of your external components must be zero balanced or "neutral"

My 383 was internally balanced. ATI hub, Scat crank, aftermarket flywheel.

Cast or Steel crank? what Balancer was used? what Rods were used? I personally would never use Scat or Eagle budget internals. Especially on a stroker combo. These are critical parts!

Crank manufacture should be able to tell you what balancer and flex plate you need. Most likely you will need balancer and flex plate to internally balance rotating assembly.

Stock LT1 & LT4 Front "Harmonic Damper" usually called a 'Balancer' are factory zero or neutral balanced. Front of LT engines are internally balanced. Rear are flywheel external balanced. So not sure what the 383 flywheel balance would be, but front balance should be stock and OK.

The flywheel should also be Zero OR neutral. PS. All internal & external components should be checked at your Shop during balancing!
