The Z is a great car and I would love one but I do like a car that I'm not afraid to put miles on. As far as the rear I can tell the diff but it takes a second look. Now as far as knocking the rear on a base C4 saying it looks squeezed I disagree, if anything does not look right its the stretched butt on the Z.

I don't understand why you feel the need to keep bringing it up. People who love the ZR-1 appreciate the body difference. I don't think any ZR-1 owner has any less love for their car because people don't know the difference. It's still the best looking corvette ever created, just after the 63 split window.

Conversely, when I would line up my 67 435HP coupe next to a 67 L88, the entire car looks the same - no difference. And yet that the difference between a $200K car and a $4 Million car (or for that matter a $70K 67 390HP car) visually is nil. Point is that visuals don't drive value.

Here is something to think about regarding ZR1 prices. I was in the market for a late model C4 corvette, specifically the LT5, LT4, and LT1 engine cars and had been researching and looking for approximately 1 ½ years (I never make a quick decision). My first choice was the ZR1 (LT5), but was about 2 – 3 times that of the LT4 (except the GS), and LT1. I know you can find good deals but all things equivalent the LT5 is much more for a comparable car.
Although the ZR1 is a great car I could not see it as 2 - 3 times car over that of the other cars, (even after testing drive 3 ZR1’s) I test drove 1 LT4’s and 2 LT1’s. LT4 were marginally more than the LT1’s, I ended up buying a 96 LT4 CE.
Now this is just my experience but if this is what the average person is thinking (and I think I am in that category) then the prices of LT1 and LT4 will creep up but it does not mean the prices of ZR1 would go down but it could. 20 – 25 years ago sales of the ZR1 fell there was lots of reasons for this, but this could have been one of them, but still it is the King of the Hill!!!

The price of the ZR-1 past and present is a reflection of the sticker price when new. Almost 2x the price of a base car.

Sept/2015
LT1 (SE) - $10,000 (CDN)
LT5 (ZR1) - $27,000 (CDN) - 2.7x
Sept/2006
LT1 (SE) - $14,700 (CDN)
LT5 (ZR1) - $33,600 (CDN) - 2.3x
Whether this means that the SE will go up or ZR1 will go down is a very hard question to answer and I cannot answer that question.
Update:
What I can answer is that at 2.7x, I personally could not justify the price difference when I just wanted a car to cruise around in terms of (performance, handling, etc.. and this includes the knowledge of having a ZR1 [king of the Hill])

Sorry I don't understand what your getting at here as FI Corvettes had been out for some time as had FI??? I would think the marketing and research that went into the ZR-1 was why its price was high.
