is it the right battery for your car?
and did you take the bolts out of the battery connections and clean under them?

Sounds like you are making fast progress.
As for tools i recommend the craftsman max access socket set. The one with torx and hex sockets. I did a timing belt and water pump on my old vr4 with nothing but that kit! Easy to stick a magnet pen in the extensions to hold bolts too.

You seem very interested and willing to learn, that is a great place to start. Don't let people discourage you. If you get discouraged on your own, let it happen when you are ready to be done with this car, not because others say you should already be done with this car.
Your car may end up being troublesome, or it may not. Sounds like it wants to run but needs some adjustments or other sorting out. A video would be extremely helpful for people trying to diagnose your starting problem online.
383 strokers are super torquey and great fun. Glad you have other cars to drive while you get this one figured out. Be patient and methodical when wrenching. This is not a new car, it's definitely not stock, and it has some problems... so you can reasonably expect to run into something difficult at some point in the process. (It always helps me to anticipate and be prepared for that pain in the butt, so I don't throw a fit). When the problem shows up, consider it a learning opportunity. And if nothing turns out to be very difficult, what a pleasant surprise for you! Just keep at it, keep learning, and keep us posted!

Looking at your original post - you mentioned the transmission was replaced or rebuilt.
There are a number of ways the speedometer may be off.
1. There should be a cable from the transmission with a sprocket (gear) on the end. Could be the wrong gear size specified... having a mismatched output.
2. The rear axle may have had the internal gears changed ... causing a different speedo reading.
or 3. could be stuck in metric readout on the dashboard.

if you look at his speed the high one was 1 mile off and the other 5 or so off metric

Already cross-referenced with an online tire size calculator - altho the wheel diameter changed; the overall outer diameter of the 315 tire is nearly the same... remains close within 1 mph @ highway speeds.

The speedo error he has is either going to be someone changed the trans when they did the motor stuff or his English metric stuff is not working right with the switch or he has it switched wrong.

I just rewatched his video. He has its on English since its showing mph not kph.
So its probably a trans swap someone did that's throwing his speedometer off.

Take it back to Autozone or wherever you bought it and have them test it. All it's going to cost you is your time. Sometimes new stuff is broke out of the box.

I'm glad that was it bro. I always go to autozone and when I bought the first battery it did the same thing it did to you. They got me another one and it's been fine since. Since its a 383, I would go get a heavy duty optima and customize the tray to make it fit, but then again that's just me. Post a video when you get it running.
