Radar Detectors

Part of my reoccurring journey is up and down 59 from Houston to Texarkana. The speed limit varies from 35 to 75 and sometimes changes 40 mph within a quarter mile. Im not supposed to be staring at my speedo and constantly scanning the median for the next changing mph sign. Your supposed to watch the road. The first time I ever drove this route I actually thought they might as well make it a toll road instead of a speed trap....

I recently read where all of those back-up sensors, curb sensors and, as you suggested, collision avoidance sensors all use radar. Additionally, radar is used for traffic flow info on bridges, etc. My guess is they all fall within the K bandwidth as that's what usually shows up on my Escort.
Where I live (west, central Florida), I can ignore X band, pay a little attention to K band and become a hawk when Ka band sounds off!

Perhaps even more so than a mistake I made, commenting about F1 cars one time. I guess we all post ridiculous things at some point....The question now, is...should we beat him over the head for that comment months from now?

I don't want to go that high until I study up about them a little more. At first I thought the v1 was some jc whitney piece of junk that I would just throw away if I didn't like it, but that is not the case at all. Apparently the Valentine products are pretty highly regarded, and new ones are over 500 bucks. Don't wait for me if someone else wants it, ill probably study the subject for another 4-5 days before I make a decision.
CROWZ, it's yours. PM me your info, and I'll pull the hard wire parts out of my car this weekend.

Get an ESCORT. You can find good deals on used ones. About the pro and con arguments, detectors are tools for awareness; nothing will work 100% of the time. You need to pay attention to your surroundings, what other vehicles are doing, etc. If the road looks prime for tickets or like a speed trap, slow down. If it's not safe, slow down. Several websites list the types of spend guns per state. Back to my recommendation, Escort 8500 x50.

I have the passport max 2. It's not cheap but it works really good. The Escort Live phone app is great it allows you to mark locations find mark locations such as red light cameras and such. Highly recommended. Cops are using lidar and pacing as a means to catch you. If your state allows it the best option is to also get a laser jammer.

C'mon... you're kidding, right?
Speaking for what's probably a significant group of Forum members: speed is life; speed is fun and this is one of the best games in town! Their equipment improves... our equipment improves. Some of us have gone decades without tickets and have enjoyed that much more fun because we get to our destinations quicker. I'm not advocating "crazy." I'm simply suggesting that speed limits are, for the most part, revenue generators and, some of us choose to opt out. C'mon, you drive a Corvette don't you? If you truly don't exceed the posted limit, I humbly suggest you're in the wrong car.

I don't know what's stupid about it. Especially when your claim is tantamount to saying its not necessary to watch the road while driving. I'm not trying to change your mind though.
Maybe what you meant was that I am stupid because I don't see things exactly your way, that would make more sense.

If you and/or the other guy want to come down on me for watching the road while driving, well that's fine too.

Valentine one has served me well for 20 yrs!
Some of The young hipsters dont want to like it because the display looks dated - but thats ok. Its simple.
For the falses: you learn where they are and mentally tune them out.
I work as a field engineer in ohio and travel many roads/routes so i get to see where a lot of falses are at.
The direction arrow feature is very useful and allows me to determine what is causing the false (ex. A car with blind spot detection or a stationary source)...
Also, the numerical source display allows you to discover if there is real radar hiding in a false alarm (be it intentional or unintentional).
The laser jammers are great, but ive instead just put anti laser coatings on my front license plate covers of my black retractable headlight corvette.
I also want to add laser cant be used when mobile, so if you are paying attention / and quick on the brakes (even swiveling your head to look at an on ramp as you are passig it), you can see it before it sees you.
Lastly, beaware there are a lot of bogus radar detector poduct views. Radar roy, craig petersen?, etc. will purposefully rate V1 bad because they sell radar detectors and v1 only sells direct to customers, not to middlemen. So be aware
V1 is just part of The package. Waze apps helps, Good eyes / attentive driving being the most important.

You should wait until I post something that is technically wrong. Like an erroneous test method that I try and pass off as fact. Debunking myth actually helps forum readers.

Should we do that to you, now? No, we shouldn't.

You only want to watch the stripe in the middle of the road instead surroundings?
You ever look in the mirrors?
You'd rather have a detector so you don't have to watch speed limit signs?

Of course its important to watch the road. It's also important to watch your surroundings.

I just checked the Valentine One site and entered my serial number. For $289 they will exchange my V-1 with the latest. I think mine is 11 years old. It replaced a Passport that cost me a ticket.
It is still a very effective tool, but they've added some nice features.
