Default Headlight Motor Pin

Anyone know what size the roll pin is that the headlight motor uses? The one that pins the motor shaft to the mechanism.

How did you know it was 0.15" (aka 5/32") and not 4mm? What material should it be? Stainless? Am I overthinking this? Need to replace mine.

I believe I'd likely try a 5/32 cotter pin to confirm sizing or a 5/32 drill bit. I'd expect 5/32 but when I did one I didn't check because I didn't demolish one.

****I thought I had a motor here (I do) and I checked, there was enouch of the roll pin exposed to check with a cheap vernier and I got .158. I'd shop likely a 5/32 X 13/16 (3/4 would do I'd think) and 420 stainless is very common in the general market place. The .158 spec fits the 5/32 roll pin spec from here:

Great info. I need 2 ASAP. What retail stores sell these? Prefer to avoid paying shipping on a part that's less than $1, and have to wait.

Any hardware store. The Home stores are a maybe, Fastenal would depend on local store policy. An electric motor shop I'd think is also a maybe. A Tractor Supply might be a good start if there's one close. Lawn mower/small engine shop maybe.

Use the 5/32 cotter pin LOL They're everywhere!!!

as luck would have it, my local indy hardware store has some roll pins. I bought a few 5/32" x 3/4" and they match exactly what the old ones were. *Problem is they are extremely tight trying to hammer them in the holes on the headlight and motor. Don't want to break anything. Should I maybe drill using a 5/32" bit to clean up the holes a tad?

i ended up drilling the same size diameter as the hole and pin (5/32") just to clean the pin hole. lubricted as well. and used pipe wrench pliers to squeeze the pin in the hole. worked great. and fixed my headlight issue.

issue was the all-too-common headlight motor bushings aka nylon hockey pucks that broke down. In my case, they had completely disintegrated down to white powder and rocks.

Did that cause headlights not to flip on or wiggle? I ask because when mine are off my drivers will wiggle and not sit flush. Didn't know if you had the same issue

The progression, as near as I can tell, is at first they will 'kerchunk' at the end of travel in either direction. Over time, opening or closing will be less and less reliable, and I would expect that in the final stages, they would just wiggle.

As the gear guts get looser and looser, the headlight will no longer be firm in its open or closed position.

Ok thanks that's what I was looking for now. Right now both work but when closed or off the drivers will wiggle and not sit flush.
