Just took a closer look it looks like the #1 injector is not fully seated, unless its just that different from the rest. I can see the o ring.

edit: Firing order was correct, just the labels on the plug wires were wrong. Still no starty.

Cleaned it up, first of several washes it needs. Where can I get some cheap 18's? All the take offs I see are staggered.

Thanks, yes molded knock offs will be fine for the street but I need 18's for track.

I totally forgot about starting fluid, I'll try that next. I appreciate the offer to call, I'm not gonna be able to touch this car till Wednesday I have a long day today. If I get stuck I'll take you up on that for sure.

If you don't mind me asking, what did you pick this vette up for price wise? Seems like it could be a real diamond in the rough! Best of luck getting the issue figured out.

I paid 1500. I think that price was fair, I don't think I stole it but I think I got a pretty good deal as long as t doesn't need too much I don't know about.

The injector on the right is the GM original "Multitec Injector" not sure about the replacement on the left. You need to jump on "Pologreen's" offer! They are easy to change.

seeyouinajif, have you seen the car run? The engine may have run with the distributor in this position. The distributor can be set into many positions, and as long as it is set up to fire the #1 plug with the #1 cyl @ about 6-8 deg. BTC. Before you pull the distributor, try bow tie guy's procedure to see if the timing might actually be correct! Clean the timing marks first. Some White-Out in the harmonic damper timing groove is a big help. Since the firing order is okay, I'm betting the timing is okay, too!

It's true that the distributor isn't in the "factory position", but some things are a "so what", if you're not a stickler for details! Some would say "that's being too ****"! The previous "mechanic" obviously wasn't much for detail!

I know there are people who are more "****" or more of a perfectionist than others but there are some things on autos that are just right. So reorienting the distributor is the right thing to do even if it works the other ways. If he gets the FSM, he will do well to have everything in it's correct base line position so instructions regarding those components will make sense. As an example, the distributor cap would not be jammed against the intake if it is in the OEM position. The OP suggests he will be tracking the car. If so, he needs to have all his ducks in a row to avoid any issues when he is pushing the car hard. I agree that the offer for a cheap set of matched injectors is also the best route. Those on the engine look rough.

He got a killer deal on this car. So just because you spend $1500 doesn't mean it will cost $150 to get it to an OK state. I would feel wonderful if I had $1500 in mine. It would have loosened my purse strings quite a bit. If the OP gets it running reliably in under $2500, I'd be surprised. Track tires can get pricy.

Good luck,

WEK.

bow tie, If he's seen the car run, the timing can't be as bad as most people here are saying. He's looking for a reason the engine won't start, and I'm trying to say that the distributor being out of it's "ideal" position is NOT the reason it won't start! Lets focus on one problem at a time, instead of doing a lot of work that won't help him start the car!! Sorry bow tie, but your comment about his valve timing being off was totally off track!

Hot Rod Roy there is no such thing as "Bad timing" (it's either correct or incorrect) Si No ? it's not **** and it's not "So what"

been doing this for 41 years, Do I know everything absolutely not, and
I learn something new everyday, even at my age.

But thanks for the pointers Roy. from now on when
I think about ****, you'll be the first thing the comes to mind

How about them bears

ps how the hell do you know where his valve timing is

if the previous owner dropped the distributor in in the wrong position the valve time is off in relation to ignition timing

that's why I suggested he put it on TDC #1 compression
reinstall and check firing order on the cap
