Default Found a video for a Harbor Freight Lift

Would you get under this with your car on it? I think I would be sweating bullets the first few times. I am assuming it works well though.

Nope...that's too good to be (safely) true IMHO. Nice lift but maybe for a 2,000 pound car at best.

Later,

If you can walk under it you don't need a lift.

Harbor Freight is very good about giving your money back when tools fail. That's saying you are alive after using this junk.

Might be OK for changing tires, etc. Seems to be too much stuff in the way to actually get under the car with it, much less perform exhaust work. This unit also appears to be far too narrow to be stable at anywhere near its maximum lift of 48-50".

The fact that the guy in the video has had to make several modifications and order a replacement control system to even get it to work properly tells me all I need to know!

Nice car cover. Looks like a C4 covered up back there.

There are locks built into it....I wouldn't hesitate to use it after inspecting it. I've been under plenty of lifts, you just have to test, use it progressively, have it earn your trust. A scissor lift isn't really meant for you to crawl all within it. It's for perimeter access, suspension/brakes/engine bay, etc. Exhaust work, tranny...not really great for that. In that case you could fab some taller stands or wheel blocks and use the lift to bring the car up into position, then lower on blocks.

At my one shop, for long term projects that need to be in the air somewhat, but not tie up a lift, we just used some basic blocks like these. I've since fabbed some out of metal.

After looking at the HF pricing though, I'd order this one instead

I've used Atlas lifts for years and years...I trust them fully. This one is 100 bucks cheaper than Harbor also. Shipping would offset the savings but...much more "known" brand and comes with warranty instead of having to pay, like harbor.

Biggest problem I've had with harbor freight stuff is crappy quality of the Chinese metal all the tools I get from them are of. I know this going in so I'm not exactly surprised when a tool breaks. That thing breaks its game over. Not that brave.

I skipped through the video without audio (at work), he didn't even put his own car on it in the video, which is what I wanted to see.

Never been a fan of scissor lifts anyway. But I have 3 ton jackstands from harbor freight and in 12 years I've never had a problem with them

I might see a use for that unit for changing all 4 tires/wheels or some suspension work but for actually getting under it, I don't think so. I have friends who have them but not the HB one. I have some things HB but not others.

I have a two poster. I got it delivered to my garage pad for $1700. Yes, including delivery. I do a little celebration dance every time I use it. It has paid for itself several times already. If I had a garage like Jay Lino, I might have a scissor lift for things like I mentioned above since I could afford one of everything.

Note: Unfortunately, the fellow who did the video didn't do a lot to convince someone that it was a great idea, IMHO. I must admit, I didn't look at the whole thing so maybe it got better over time.

I agree. You can't be under it anyway unless you are 4ft tall or on your knees. What's the big deal?
