What he said!

The owners manual says "NOTICE" - Don't lubricate the power antenna. Lubrication could damage it.

I think I read in owners man. to use Mineral Spirits. Other stuff will eventually gum it up. Guy

When I think of it, I'll use Mothers metal cleaner/ polish on the antenna. Never have a problem with bug guts jamming it.

I use about 3 drops of 3-In-One oil, about once a month. :seeya

How would you lube it? Just apply lube on it from the outside when the radio is on?

Mine was doing the same thing. I finally broke down and replaced the mast. Haven't had a problem since. The mast cost less than 25.00 at Auto Zone and takes about 30 min to replace, if you don't have to remove the motor.

I had this problem as well, and I took some fine steel wool and gently polished the antenna then applied mineral spirits. :)

With the mast extended, drip a couple of drops of 3-In-One oil near the joints, then turn the radio off and on a couple of times to lubricate the mast.
If it still sticks, you may have other problems,..... motor, etc.
Good Luck

I know the owners manual says only use mineral sprits, but I've been using WD-40 for the last seven years on both my Impala and my Vette. No build up issue, but WD-40 isn't much more than mineral sprits with a little lube.

And when I have the WD40 out I put a small amount on the antenna (no spray just a little wipe)

FWIW - i use mobil 1. no, not the oil, but the synthetic spray. i just spray a little on a paper towel and wipe the mast with a very light coat. probably do it twice a year. i get it from auto zone. only place i know that sells the stuff.
