1985 C4 Wheel Fit
I just purchased a 1985 Corvette.
I am looking at purchasing 18x9.5 (all 4) chrome 5 stars wheels that say for C6. (Tire size 255/40/18).
The wheel manufacturer will not guarantee fit on 1985. They only say 1988+
I've heard discussions about using adapters. However, the tire shop advised against adapters for some reason. Are adapters safe for the car or change the ride?
Thank you!

You need 1 inch adapters, they bolt on to your car and the wheels bolt on them. The actual difference in offset between the 84-87 is 38mm to 54mm on the 88-96 3/4 inch but the adapters are 1 inch.
I have been using them for close to 15 years now and have not given any problems, i also track my car so that is a good reliability test.
You can get the 88-96 style wheels with offset for 84-87 so you do not need adapters, but they are in 17 inch?

ADAPTERS are good....spacers no. I ran adapters on my 85 for years using the car on the 1/4 mile drag trace and autocross without issues.
With spacers you will often have to use LONGER studs. The longer studs may lead to failure.

Thank you for the responses!
I found a 2005 replica wheel that list the correct offset for 1984-1987. It is the only one that I can find.
