1989 hatch weatherstripping
Today my hatch weatherstripping broke loose. I've bought Willcox weatherstripping for the rest of the car. They price the weatherstrip for $70...everyone else is a bit pricier. ZIP Corvette is $100 for example. Is the Willcox hatch weatherstrip pretty good? Reasonably easy to install? I'm going to break out the cover...this is a daily driver and its supposed to rain this weekend here.
Thanks

My experience with imports has been poor. They don't fit properly in the corners and split at the seams quickly. Found http://www.steelerubber.com/ fits perfect and it has been years with no problems. Bad news $180.00. If you are fussy you will be pleased. If you are not fussy Wilcox is nice to deal with.

Are the corners on the Steel Rubber product bonded really good? A photo on the their website wasn't encouraging. I know a photo doesn't always tell it like it is...but I think maybe they should have posted a better photo. Willcox's weatherstrip is $70, Steel rubber $180. Are they that much better?

I got mine off ebay about $65 and still good five years latter just a crap shoot. No glue I set the corners first then found the middle on top and back then found the middle again on each and worked it in easy job. Just be careful taking the struts off.

I used the one from Willcox. It separated within 2 weeks. It is crap. I will pay $180 if I know it won't split. I spent 3 hours installing this only to be back at square one. The new one looks no better than the old one did. I'm very upset.

So I'll order the Steel Rubber weatherstrip and see how it goes. Hopefully the extra cash is worth it in the long run. My '89 is a daily driven car. It rains a fair amount here in Oregon during the fall/winter/early spring.

I had 3 imports on and every one split within 6 months. None fit in the corners properly. This one has been on for I think 5 years. Make sure seal is warm it will be easier to install.

The corners were a bit loose on mine when I bought it. Then when I took it back to the tire shop to have them remount the saw blades they installed backward, one of the guys tore the loose corners out for me. No extra charge!
If you're ever in Laurens, SC, I can tell you which tire shop to avoid.
Mine too is a daily driver. But I have covered parking at both ends of the journey. So no new rubber there yet.
I did the window frame rubber though and now the window doesn't meet up with the groove.

Yesterday the weatherstrip arrived. I plan to install this weekend. Any sage advice for me? No glue...anything else?
