Default Loss of my '89, a true friend

Sorry for being a little emotional but I guess I needed to let it out somehow. First I wanted to thank this wonderful community. You have all been very helpful with my researching and very friendly when I needed questions answered. I would probably say this is the best community forum I have been part of and I'm sad to probably have to go.

I lost my vette in an accident last Thursday. It was a total loss according to the insurance and i was completely devasted. It Hurt seeing the car I was proud of in shambles. The car I took so much time, money, and effort to fix and restore was gone. I had so many projects planned for the car. Resoration Treatments I believed it deserved for the good memories it gave me, the trips to school, work, and the solo cruises I made in the evenings. This was my first car. The car I bought with my own money. I tried to fix the car on my own and it soon began to feel like a member of my family. It's depressing seeing the car go and I was told by various people it was a miracle I survived. It felt that even until the moment it was being thrashed, it protected me with all its life. Maybe I didn't deserve the car, maybe I was too naive to have it but at least i'm glad to have had such pleasurable experiences with the vette.

Once again, thank you corvette c4 forums and thanks to those who listened to my grieving

The day I first laid eyes on it and knew we might have a connection.

Very sorry to hear about your Corvette.

I once lost a firebird to an accident, even over a decade later I still miss driving that car...

Thankfully, I got the Corvette after losing the firebird, and It has been a great car, made lots of memories with it.

I hope your next car (Corvette or otherwise) brings you many more fond memories.

It's good to hear you were able to find a wonderful car after your loss. Thanks for your response.

Sorry to hear that man. I've been a C4 owner for only about a month and its already crossed my mind that if it gets totaled it will be quite hard to find another (well kept admiral blue 6 speed)

Not trying to bug but would you mind saying where the impact was? Curious as to what part of the car took the impact and what damage there was

Hopefully you never get to experience having that vette totalled. It's okay. It actually got both ends of the car. the rear took most of the impact. The car appears repairable to me but it's too much for my college student budget to handle.

I was on that college budget not too long ago. I feel yah!

At least if you want to buy another C4 sometime, the market is completely on the buyer side right now and prob will be for another year or more

What happened? Any pics of the damage? Underside frame shots?

Sorry it's wrecked but if it's fixable you can fight with the insurance company to fix it.

First off, sorry you lost your Vette. Been there a couple of times on other vehicles and it doesn't get any easier with age.

On the insurance aspect, make them an offer for the remains if you want to keep it. I've done that before and bought back a vehicle totaled by the insurance company. Came out OK on that but realize you'll likely have a 'Salvage' title. I had not problems re-insuring it but I've heard other have so check it out thoroughly.

So sorry for your terrible loss!

I can't even think about the possibility that this could someday happen to my car, but it's all too easy to find yourself in a fool's path on the streets. Just yesterday, I had not one, but two near-tbone close calls--SUVs and trucks seem to have a hard time seeing a C4 with as low as they sit.

Even just the thought of moderate body damage makes my stomach turn...but at the end of the day, if they're saying you're lucky to have survived, count your blessings. Live to build another day! And maybe buy back the car for later.

May it RIP. Couldn't imagine the loss you must be feeling. Anyone of us would be devastated if it happened to our ride. Hang in there....I honestly can't think of anything else to say, but sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss, MrHappy66.....deeply sorry.

As the others have said; fight for a fair settlement from the ins and wait for the replacement c4 you want.

On another note, keep your eyes open to circumstances around the crash and esp. your health.

I crashed a original owner '04 Neon R/T last summer. The broken ribs from the seatbelt got me into the hospital ED where a full torso C/T revealed a 3cm mass inside my left kidney that was found to be cancerous upon the mass' removal. Absolutely no signs anything was wrong until that crash.

I lost my '93 in an accident.. But the insurance money bought me a '96 LT4 so I actually upgraded.. But I still miss my '93. It had a special place in my heart.

Keep your head up and look on the bright side, time for a new vette!
