I am ready to begin sanding my 1986 corvette. I know very little about the whole process and I need to know what types of sandpaper to use and how far to sand into the body.

plenty of U-tube on painting vettes. Don't sand into the body, sand off old paint. and DO NOT start with 80 grit!

The factory primer (on my car '86L) is black. Sand to black and STOP. If its already been painted once it may not hold true. I agree with ghoastrider1, do not go coarser than 220. What color is your car now, are you changing color? I did, i went from dark red metallic to bright red. The dark red was very pretty but i couldn't spray it to look good. Just take your time.

No coarser than 600 or you'll score the finish. Its no different to an metal body to prep, just don't be too hard on it and take your time..
