Default Oil temp

89 Vert auto bone stock. What kind of oil temps are you guys seeing ? I normally never use the oil temp gauge, have it set to display the pressure instead. Tonight (70 ambient) the oil was @ 190, which seems high to me. The car was sitting for 15 minutes or so with the engine running, but I would have thought the oil temp would have come down some after a 20 mile highway run. I am not sure if there is an external oil cooler, will have to look tomorrow. The water temp was fine. It takes my 13 GS forever to even get the oil up over 150 deg, but then again there is a huge cooler in that system.

190 is no big deal ..... On very long highway trips my oil temp will eventually climb to about 10 degrees over coolant temp.

I run 250-degress with synthetic. Not a problem.

What's your oil pressure like at 200 compared to 250?

I live in Mesa AZ and my oil temps run 235 degrees with normal driving. My coolant temp sits at 190-210 in the summer. Winter months oil temps still hover around 235 average. Freeway open road to Los Angeles 85-100mph the whole way oil temps will climb to 260 and drop if I slow down. I run Mobile 1 synthetic 20-50W. I contacted Mobil 1 and they said oil temps 300 or higher are for 30 minutes or longer is a concern. I imagine it would take an awful lot of effort to get my oil that hot.
