Got some welcome news today
I live in New Jersey (as my screen name indicates) and today I received some welcome news. It was a letter from the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission informing me that "Due to changes in the Motor Vehicle Inspection Program, the vehicle identified above (my 1993 Coupe) is no longer required to undergo an emission inspection".
Now, I will admit that the inspection process in New Jersey is a lot less onerous than it was just a few years ago when they tested nearly everything (lights, brakes, emissions, seat belts). (I was one failed because the inspector felt the custom steering wheel I had installed on my 69 coupe was too small)(huh?). While the process itself only took 15 - 20 minutes you could waste several hours waiting if you visited a state run inspection facility on the wrong day or at the wrong hour.
Anyway, I am now relieved of that bi-annual interface with big government, and await 2018 when my car is 25 years old and qualifies for historic (QQ) plates which will allow me to pay a one-time fee of about $40 to register my car for as long as I own it.

That is great! Now if you could just get that mentality to brush off on some of the idiots that are running California the world would be a better place.

In WI. 96+ up have to get it.
I also had my car retitled as "street modified" hobbyist. Onetime fee and when cops are called too bad old car big motor. Of course I don't want them called.

I forgot to mention that the letter also included a card which I am to keep in the car that says the car no longer has to be inspected and cites the statute. My concern is that, most likely, very few cops will be able to identify a 93 vs a 96 (or any other year Corvette) and I will be stopped often and asked why my car has either no inspection sticker or an expired one.

Thats interesting....I too live in New Jersey and have a 1992 Corvette but have never received any letter of the sort.
Would be nice and also mine turns 25 next year, although I may not still have it then.

The letter might be tied to your registration renewal month. I renewed my registration in late May and got the letter about 4 weeks later.
