3 hours of working on my wheels = satisfied
So the center caps on my 89 were in pretty bad shape when I got her a few weeks ago. I will buy some new ones but with other things more important I decided to try and see what some elbow grease might do.
I'm pretty satisfied with how they turned out. Not perfect but alot better until I can grab some new ones.

nice improvement
those wheels look best restored, right sheen/clearcoat rather than polished or rattlecanned .
Some parts look just right stock (and not a "stock is great" guy)

Good job! Take care of the more pressing needs.

Well done! Are you planning on polishing the wheels? I did mine over the winter a couple years ago. That was a lot of elbow grease but something to do while cooped up in the house and worth it afterwards.

My wheels are in really good shape, it's just those dang center caps..every one of them looked like they do on the pics.
I took the center caps off, sanded them with 180 grit, 320 grit and then wet sanded them with 800 and 1200 grit. Then used a compound, polish, then waxed them. They aren't perfect, but they do look a lot better and will make me happier about them until I can grab some that are in better condition.

I worked 8 hours on this one and it is turning out nicely. I dont believe it has clear because all I've used thus far is mothers polish and a power ball.
I will get all 4 done and post finished pics soon.

They look great, but I would rid of the weights and go with stick on ones they will save the wheel finish.

Look nice. I have new polished aluminum ones coming. What type of polish or wax did you use or what others recommend? They are machined finish with no coating on them.
